April Favorites: Recommendations

April was an odd month for me (In terms of weather and in terms of life). On some days, it was rainy and cold, and on some days it was super hot and sunny (and on some days it was both in the same day, unfortunately). I didn't quite know what to make of it. However, even though the weather was half winter and half summer, my makeup was Spring themed. This month, I gravitated towards light, fresh looking makeup -- just the right combination for Spring!

Albatross by NARS ($30)- So, I'm sure everyone has heard of this very popular product, but, I still want to talk about it. NARS markets this as a blush, but most people (including me) use it as a highlight. It's a gorgeous, sheer, golden illuminating highlight, and it's universally flattering. I typically use it on top of a pale pink or terra cotta blush. I've heard that it doesn't look so good on very pale people, but I'm very pale and it looks nice on me. However, I will tell you that it looks whitish gold on deeper skin tones and yellowish gold on lighter skin tones. It is a little pricey (but, hey, it's NARS), however, it's an everyday staple and you get a lot of product, so I think it's worth it. Final rating: 9/10

Dandelion by Benefit ($15 - $29) - So, last month I wrote about how much I was enjoying Cargo's powder blush. I've definitely still been using that blush, but, recently, I've found myself reaching for Benefit's Dandelion blush. It's a really cute, baby pink that's perfect for an everyday, springtime look. Because I'm quite fair, it doesn't really stand out that much on my skin; it just sort of gives me a natural splash of color. However, I think it would really stand out and be very pretty on someone with a deeper skin tone as well. Also, you can buy it in a travel size for a discounted price, so you can save a little money. Final rating: 10/10

Lipsurgence Lip Creme by Tarte  ($24) - I got this in my ipsy bag this month. At first, I was a little hesitant to try it out because I don't usually like Tarte lip products, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It has a very light, moisturizing formula, and it smells like mint! The only down side is that it's not very pigmented. I have the shade Wonder, which does have a pinky, reddish tint that gives your lips a healthy glow. It's not a very glamourous or high fashion look, but it's a cute, fun product for every day use in the springtime. Final rating: 6/10

Dotting Pen Tool Nail Art Manicure Kit ($3.09) - As you may or may not have noticed, I've been really into nail polish recently, and one of the best nail items I purchased this month was a set of dotting tools. I bought mine from Amazon for a ridiculously cheap price, although you can buy tools like these from a lot of different beauty supply stores. If you're interested in doing basic nail art, I highly recommend you pick these up. I'm generally terrible at nail art and even I found these really easy to use. You could use these to create polka dots, lines, flowers, or clouds on your nails; they're very versatile. If you want more ideas of looks to create with dotting tools, just go to YouTube and search for dotting tool tutorials. Final rating: 10/10
