What Ever Happened to Crackle Nail Polish?
Me with Crackle Polish |
If you don't remember, crackle nail polish was a trend that was really popular circa 2009. Basically, you put a layer of it over another nail polish and then the crackle nail polish "cracks" into interesting patterns. I remember really liking this polish while I was in high school and then, sadly, my bottle dried up because I didn't screw the lid on tightly enough.
Anyway, after that, I sort of forgot about it until I stumbled upon a picture of a manicure with crackle nail polish when I was looking at pictures of nail polish online (and yes, I do that quite often). I looked at the picture and was like "huh, I haven't seen crackle nail polish in a while" and proceeded to look it up.
Well, I couldn't find it anywhere! I checked Ulta, Sephora, OPI, Sally Hansen, etc. I was actually really surprised. I mean, I was aware of the fact that it wasn't really in style anymore, but puce green has never been in style and that's readily available! I was just surprised that no one makes crackle anymore. Eventually, I ended up finding and buying two bottles on Amazon, but it was a bit of a struggle.
So, what happened? I'm guessing that crackle just went out of style, but I don't understand why because I think they can be really cool! You just have to pick colors that look nice together. I mean, was there some sort of nefarious reason all the nail polish companies in the world decided to discontinue crackle polish? It's a mystery to me. I do know that the formula tends to get a little thick and gloopy after a while, so maybe they just couldn't come up with the right formula? Also, if you apply a coat that's too thick, it won't crackle. So, if you don't know how to apply it, it can be really frustrating; so, I could see how that would be a problem.
I just don't know. However, I do know that what goes around comes around in terms of trends, so it'll probably come back into style eventually. For now, if I want crackle polish, I'll just hunt it down on Amazon.
