H&M: First Impressions Fridays
My town recently acquired an H&M (so, basically, we have just entered the 21st century). Anyway, this was intensely exciting to me because, apparently, H&M now has a line of cosmetics. Also, you know, I like their clothes and stuff. Long story short, I swatched a ton of their new makeup and decided to pick up a few things.
Full disclosure, I intended to pick up some of their face products (foundation, powder, concealer, etc.), but, after swatching them, I decided they weren't worth the money. In my opinion, all of their face products are extremely light coverage. I knew without trying them out that that wasn't going to work for me.
Because I was able to swatch all the products before purchasing them, I bought the products I was most impressed with. However, over all, I would say that this cosmetic line is a mixed bag. There are some great products in this line; however, there are also a lot of products that are extremely disappointing. If you're interested in picking up some H&M cosmetics, I would encourage you to actually go to the store and swatch them first.
Infinite Impact Eye Colour - I swatched a ton of these eyeshadows while I was in the store. Overall, I think they're kind of a mixed bag. There are some really pigmented, beautiful shadows. However, there are also some very meh shadows that aren't very pigmented. Again, I think you actually have to go to the store and look at them in order to make an informed decision. I picked up the shade Kobai Azalea because I didn't have anything else like it in my collection. As you can see, it's a matte hot pink with a reddish undertone. It's very, very pigmented, and I love it. However, I would suggest building it up slowly in order to avoid fall out. Other than that, I think it applies very nicely. As I said, it is prone to fall out, but it's very long lasting and it applies evenly. I imagine you would get less fallout with lighter shadows.
Colour Essence Eye Pencil - I'm super impressed with these eye liners, and, as you know, I'm really picky about eye liners. I picked up the Colour Essence Eye Pencil in two shades: Panther and Terroir; Panther is an intense black and Terroir is a dark, warm-toned brown. They're both super creamy, pigmented, and long lasting. Plus, they apply really smoothly with no patches. They remind me a lot of the Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner, which is one of my favorite eyeliners. True, I have eyeliners that are more pigmented and more long lasting than the Colour Essence liner, but, for the price, I think it's practically incomparable.
Nail Polish - As you might be able to guess, I was immediately drawn to the wall of H&M nail polishes. (But really, who can resist nail polish?) I picked up two shades: Hinterland and Space Jam. As I was browsing the wall of nail polishes, I noticed that most of the shades were pretty ordinary. They're all definitely dupe-able. Hinterland is a dark, forest green; it had a pretty good formula and was opaque in one coat. Space Jam is a pinkish micro-glitter with a subtle gold flash. Its formula wasn't as good; it takes three coats to be opaque and is rather runny. All in all, I would say that you could pass on these nail polishes, unless you're just looking for something cheap and basic. If you're a nail polish junkie like me, you probably won't be a fan of these polishes. However, as I said, they are cheap.
Anyway, those were my first impressions of H&M Cosmetics. As I said, I think this line is a bit of a mixed bag. Some products are fantastic (like the Essence Eye Pencil), and others -- like the foundation and concealer -- are rather disappointing. As I said above, if you're interested in H&M Cosmetics, I would recommend going to the store and swatching the products.
