April Empties
Happy April! Spring is always a great time for makeup. Spring always inspires me to break out of my makeup rut and try new products. In the spirit of spring cleaning, spring also inspires me to use up old products to make room for new things. So, without furthur ado, these are my empties from the month of April:
Death Valley Dry Shampoo by R+Co ($30) - I think I've written about this product before. It's one of my favorite dry shampoos better. Actually, let me rephrase this, it is my favorite dry shampoo. It pulls all the oil out of my hair, it leaves my hair pretty soft, and it has a nice, powder scent. I don't know what else I could ask for from a dry shampoo. I will be repurchasing this, but I want to use up one of my other dry shampoos first. (Also, let's be real, I love the packaging).
Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser by Yes To ($9.99) - Honestly, I don't really know why I bought this. This cleanser is supposed to help clear up acne, and I don't have acne. So, I don't know what I was expecting this to do for me. I mean, this cleanser was fine. It didn't really do anything for me, but, then again, it's not designed for me either. Obviously, I probably won't be repurchasing.
Coconut Ultra Hydrating Overnight Crème Mask by Yes To ($14.99) - Like I said, I love coconut scented things. I would wrap myself in coconuts if I could (although that might be uncomfortable). I think this is the third pot of this nighttime moisturizer that I've gone through. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and refreshed, it has a great smell, and compared to other moisturizers, it's pretty cheap. I've already bought another pot of this product, and I will definitely continue to use it!
Clean Artiste Waterproof and Long Wearing Eye Makeup Remover by L'Oreal ($6.99) - I bought this on sale a little while ago because I needed eye makeup remover. I'm kind of indifferent to this product; it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Also, I don't like the packaging. Obviously, this is a liquid product, but there's no dispenser, stopper, or pump of any kind on the bottle. It's just a plastic bottle with an open "mouth," so to speak...which means that I promptly preceded to spill it everywhere and waste a ton of product. So, I probably won't be repurchasing this product.
2-In-1 Pencil Sharpener by NYX ($4.49) - This isn't empty so much as it's broken. Somehow or another, I managed to break this eye pencil sharpener in half. Don't ask me how I did it. One minute, I was trying to sharpen an eyeliner, the next minute I was holding four chunks of jagged plastic that used to be an eye pencil sharpener. I've had this eye pencil sharper for a couple years, and it worked pretty well. I mean, I don't really know how a pencil sharpener can be bad. Either is sharpens your pencils or it doesn't, and this sharpened my pencils. The only thing I didn't like was that it collected the shavings from the pencils in the lid, and the lid fell off a lot, so it was kind of messy. Also, the clear lid got dirty easily, and I didn't really like how that looked. Anyway, this was my only sharpener for makeup pencils, so right now I'm kind of up a creek without a paddle in terms of sharpening my pencils. So, I'll be buying a new sharpener ASAP.
Time Balm Primer by the Balm ($30.00) - I think I wrote about this product in my winter favorites. It's a wonderful primer! It's the only primer I've been using for months. This primer does a great job of making your skin look smooth and even. I think it's designed for more mature skin, so it's obviously designed to reduce the appearance of little blemishes and lines. However, it's really flattering on younger skin as well. My only complaint is the packaging. Personally, I prefer primers with some sort of pump. It's a bit pricey, but I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have mature skin. All and all, I would definitely consider repurchasing this primer; although, right now, I have approximately 5 million other primers to try out and use.
Matte Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 by BareMinerals ($28.50) - This used to be the only foundation that I used. It's a great foundation for every day use. As it's a powder, the coverage is light, so it gives a more "natural" look. It gives the impression of "your skin, but better." It's also very comfortable and long lasting--shockingly long lasting for a powder foundation--so you can easily wear it all day. However, I've recently been moving away from using powder foundation. Although I think it's an excellent powder foundation--and I would definitely recommend it to those of you who prefer powder foundations--I probably won't repurchase it for a while, especially since it took me so long to use this one up.
Énergie de Vie Overnight Recovery Sleeping Mask by Lancome ($65.00) - I used up a sample of Lancome's Énergie de Vie Overnight Recovery Sleeping Mask; I think I got this as a 100 point perk from Sephora a while back. I liked this overnight mask, but I don't think it's $65 good. Honestly, I don't think it did anything for my skin that my Coconut Ultra Hydrating Overnight Crème Mask by Yes To didn't do. It may be that this product just isn't aimed at me. This mask might be really good for someone with more mature skin, but, for me, it wasn't doing anything extradordinary. Don't get me wrong, it's a good product and it's very moisturizing, but I think you could get the same result from a cheaper product.
Death Valley Dry Shampoo by R+Co ($30) - I think I've written about this product before. It's one of my favorite dry shampoos better. Actually, let me rephrase this, it is my favorite dry shampoo. Obviously, I probably won't be repurchasing.
Frizz Ease Straight Fixation Smoothing Cream by John Frieda ($6.99) - I think I got this in a Birchbox at some point (?). This is a leave in smoothing product that you're supposed to use with wet or damp hair. I used this after I washed my hair, and it was generally okay. I didn't think "this is the best thing ever!", but, at the same time, it did have sort of a smoothing, softening effect. Long story short, I'm not mad at this product, but I'm probably not going to repurchase it.
False Lashes Mascara by MAC ($23.00) - I used up a sample of MAC's False Lashes Mascara; I think I got this the last time I ordered from MAC. I hardly ever buy mascara because I feel like I always have SO MANY SAMPLES sitting around. Anyway, I liked this mascara; I feel like it was very lengthening and volumizing. It was also very black. It's not the best mascara I've ever used, but I was quite impressed. I probably won't be repurchasing it because, as I said, I have SO MANY MASCARA SAMPLES. IT'S INSANE!!! Anyway, this was a good product.
Coconut Cleansing Wipes by Yes To ($5.99) - I've written about these makeup remover wipes before. They're my favorite wipes, and I always have two or three backup packs. They're cheap, they work, and they smell like coconut. I'm obsessed with coconut scented things, so I love these.
Grapefruit Correct & Repair Daily Facial Scrub by Yes To ($9.99) - As you can probably tell, I really like Yes To products. In general, I think they deliver a great value for a very reasonable price. I needed a new face wash, so I picked this facial scrub up from Ulta. I was very pleased with this scrub. I don't think it's like magical or anything, but it smells good and it gets my face clean, and that's really all I ask for in a facial scrub. Personally, I really like facial cleansers with citrus scents; I feel like they wake up my face. There are facial cleansers that I like just as much; however, I've already repurchased this product, so, obviously, I like this product and will continue to use it. If you need a facial scrub, I suggest picking up this product.
