Review: Retrograde Highlighter by Ofra

So, I recently picked up the Retrograde Highlighter by Ofra Cosmetics during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale, and I've been testing it out, so I thought I'd pop on and give you a quick review of this product.

First of all, I should say that this highlight is $29, which is a LOT of money. I know that it's not the most expensive highlight out there by a long shot, but I probably wouldn't have bought it at full price. I got it for 50% during the Ulta sale, and I think that's a more appropriate price. However, you do get 0.35 oz of product for your money, so you are getting a significant amount of product per dollar.

The Retrograde Highlighter is made exclusively for Ulta and includes two Ofra shades: Star Island (warm ivory) and Neptune (icy lavender). I think both of these shades are very flattering on my skin, either alone or mixed together. Now, I am pretty pale in terms of complexion, and I think people with medium to deep skin tones might struggle to use these shades. However, if you have a complexion like mine, I think you'll find these shades very wearable. They're not too blinding, although they definitely show up on the skin, and they have a decent amount of pigmentation. I think a lot of people might be a little afraid of the Neptune shade, but it doesn't come across as super purple on the skin.

In terms of formula, I think this highlight is great. It applies smoothly and beautifully to the skin. It gives a nice glow to the skin, but it's not full of chunks of glitter. As I said before, it's not a blinding highlight, but it's not one of those highlights that is so "natural" you can't see it. Ofra says their "liquid-to-baked technology is made with pearls and the richest pigments to create a smooth highlight formula that melts into the skin, giving a lit from within, radiant glow," which I think is a good description of the way the formula behaves.

The packaging is another great feature. It's SO HEAVY. When you pick it up, it feels like you're picking up a luxury product. The packaging is very sturdy and it has a nice mirror. I think it would be great to travel with.

Overall, I think this is a great product, but a bit overpriced. I've tried highlights by Essence and e.l.f. that give a similar effect. If you want to try it, I recommend looking for a sale.

Final rating: 5/5
