Review: High Glass Finishing Powder by NYX (My Relentless Quest to GLOW)
So, if you've been reading this blog for a while, you probably know that I am on a relentless quest to GLOW. Like, I'm drawn to every illuminating foundation, primer, powder, and setting spray on the market. I just can't help it! I just want to GLOW!
Anyway, I recently saw that NYX released their new High Glass line, which is supposed to give you "healthy, glowy, hydrated-looking, complexion, "glass skin"...that looks translucent, smooth and reflective-just like a pane of glass." This immediately appealed to me because—as I said—I just want to GLOW. There are a couple of different products in this line, but I decided to pick up the High Glass Finishing Powder because the idea of a reflective, finishing powder intrigues me.
I've been using this powder for a few weeks now, and I have some THOUGHTS about this powder.
First of all, I have to say that this costs $12, which seems a little much for a NYX product. I'm not hating on NYX, but I have to say that I think the quality of their products more closely aligns to Wet n' Wild pricing. I have been enjoying this product, but I bet you could get the same effect for less money if you really wanted to.
However, as I said, I do really like this powder. I was concerned that it would end up looking like a normal highlight on the skin, but it really doesn't. Essentially, this is just a powder with a very subtle golden shimmer. Shimmer isn't even the right word. It's reflective, "like a pane of glass." It's actually really beautiful on the skin. It gives you this wonderful, healthy, lit-from-within look. As you may or may not be able to tell, I'm all about it.
There are, however, some things about this product to keep in mind.
1) You only need a very small amount of this product. If you put on too much, it'll look like you dipped your face in highlight, which is not cute. If you're worried about over doing it, try mixing it with an ordinary setting powder.
2) The shade range is not good. There are three shades, and they do not accommodate people who are very fair or have deep dark skin. I'm pale, don't get me wrong, but I know that there are a lot of people who are fairer than me. If you are very fair, I wouldn't even try this product. It's going to be way too dark for you.
3) This is not a setting powder. It isn't going to do anything to keep your makeup in place. If you really need powders to keep oil in check, or something like that, this isn't going to be your cup of tea.
4) Don't put this under your eyes. I did it once just to see what it would look like, and it was low-key, high-key a hot mess.
All things considered, however, I do really like this powder, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to glow. However, you could probably get the same effect by purchasing a very subtle highlight and applying it judiciously; so, use your own best judgment.
Final Rating: 8/10
