I Bought it for the Packaging

I don't know about you, but I love pretty makeup packaging. I have to say that I really get sucked into buying products with cute packaging; I know it's just a marketing tactic, but I like having pretty things; it's as simple as that!

Anyway, I decided it would be fun to assemble a list of all the products that I bought specifically because I liked the packaging. Honestly, putting together this blog post ended up being a tad bit depressing because I realized that I've spent a lot of money on things that I don't actually use just because they're pretty.

I've been trying to change my spending habits so that I only buy things that I'll actually use, and I think that's going pretty well. However, for now, let's take a few minutes to talk about all the pretty things I've purchased.

Mirage Noir Lipstick in Twig by MAC - When I saw the MAC Mirage Noir collection, I fell in love with the packaging, and I knew I had to get something from the collection. I love MAC lipsticks and I thought Twig was a prettiest shade from that collection, so I picked it up. I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise, but I just thought that this green and purple packaging was too beautiful to miss.

Salvaje Palette by ColourPop - This palette is more a case of "I bought it for the name." Salvaje is probably my favorite word in Spanish, so when I saw that this palette was coming out I knew I had to have it. Plus, I thought the packaging was super cute. I love the black background with the colorful flowers. It's not that I don't like the eyeshadows in this palette (I think ColourPop shadows are great quality), it's just that the shade selection doesn't really speak to me. Let's put it this way, if this package had different packaging and a different name, I wouldn't have bought it.

Electric Wonder Collection by MAC - Can we all just agree that MAC has the best packaging? Seriously, when I saw preview images of MAC's Electric Wonder collection, I gasped! I wanted everything from the collection, just for the packaging, but, as you can imagine, that was really expensive. I ended up picking up one lipstick and one lip gloss. I don't use them very often, but boy do I ever like to look at them! That pink and gold marble design speaks to me.

Starring You Lipstick by MAC - I challenge you to find a lipstick that's prettier than this one. Go ahead and look, I'll wait. This lipstick came from MAC's Starring You, holiday 2019 collection. Let's keep it real, I bought this because I liked the stars embossed into the lipstick bullet. I don't know what else to say. I've worn this lipstick once or twice, but really, I just like to look at it.

Game of Thrones Lipsticks by Urban Decay - So, I was OBSESSED with Game of Thrones back in the day (not anymore because that finale was *horrible*), so, when Urban Decay announced they were coming out with a Game of Thrones collection, I was like "of course I'll buy it!" As it turned out, I didn't like anything from the collection except for the lipsticks, so I decided to buy ALL of them. So, long story short, I now have four Game of Thrones lipsticks...and I think I've used one of them once. So yeah, I definitely didn't buy those for utility. I should probably try to use the lipsticks more often, but I honestly don't love the colors that much. I used to like to look at them before I started hating the stupid TV show, but now...*shrug.*

Beauty Bento in Glowing Guava by Kaja - Let's keep it real, I bought this tiny little eyeshadow trio because it's cute. I mean, the eyeshadows are good quality too, but I don't think I would have spent $21 on three eyeshadows if they weren't in cute packaging. I have heard that a lot of people love Kaja's shimmer shadows, but, to be honest, I don't think these shadows are anything exceptional. They're good quality, but they don't really stand out from other brands.

Crystal Aura Collection by Revlon - A little while ago, Revlon came out with their Crystal Aura collection. I don't know what it was about it, but this collection just JUMPED out at me. I saw it on Trendmood, and I was like "that's pretty; I gotta have it." I was especially entranced by their sparkly, crystal lipstick. Have I ever used it? I don't think so. I also grabbed some lip oils and other liquid lip products from that collection. Honestly, I don't think I've really used any of them very much, which is unfortunate because they're actually good products.

Disney Midnight Masquerade Collection by ColourPop - I don't know what it is about ColourPop, but they do GREAT collabs, especially with Disney. Like, how did ColourPop get permission to do all these Disney collabs? I thought Disney was super strict with their copyright and stuff. Anyway. I thought ColourPop's Midnight Masquerade Collection was ADORABLE. I loved Disney movies when I was a kid, so of course I had to buy blush, highlights, and lip products. Although to be fair to me (and I like to be fair to me), I only bought products from this collection that I thought I would actually use. All the products from this collection are good, so I'm glad I got them, but, if I'm being real with myself, I wouldn't have bought any of these things if not for the packaging.

Disney Villains Collection by ColourPop - GUYS. When I saw that ColourPop was coming out with a Disney Villains collection, I LOST MY MIND. I was OVER THE MOON! I bought way more stuff from this collection than I should, but everything was pretty good, and the packaging was GORGEOUS! It's kind of like early 2000s, Hot Topic goth chic, but in an attractive way. I was a little disappointed in some of the products. The jelly shadows dried up after only a few months, which was upsetting.

Strawberry Super Shock Pigment Kit by ColourPop - Let's be clear, I bought this set of Super Shock shadows because they came in a little box that looks like a container of ice cream. Like most people on planet Earth, I LOVE ice cream. So, of course, I bought it, even though it was a collab with Halo Ice Cream, and I HATE Halo. Side note, why is a makeup company collaborating with an ice cream brand? Someone please explain to me how that makes sense.

Game of Cones Palette by Beauty Bakerie - I actually didn't buy this product; it was a gift. However, I asked for it because this palette is Game of Thrones themed (come on Beauty Bakerie, who are you fooling with Game of Cones?). As I noted above, I don't really like Game of Thrones anymore, but I still admire this palette for its overall adorableness. Seriously, this palette is super cute. I should also note that these eyeshadows have a really good formula; they're pigmented and creamy, and no one can ask for more than that. The shade selection is such that I don't use it all that often, but the shadows themselves are really good quality.

Love Struck Blusher + Bronzer in Sweet Pea Pink by J.Cat Beauty - This product was a gift too. My friend told me that she specifically bought this for me because it has a cat on it, and, let's keep it real, I'm pretty cat obsessed. I do use this blush fairly often, but it's extremely pigmented, so I have to be careful not to get too much product on the brush.

Let me know what you purchased for the packaging in the comments!
