KathleenLights X Colourpop Product Reviews: Alyssa, Mr. Bing, & Point Zero
If you know me at all, you'll probably be able to guess that I *died* with excitement when KathleenLights announced her new collab with Colourpop a few weeks ago. Of course, I immediately rushed to Colourpop's website and bought three out of her four new products -- you know, as any logical person would do. I've been using these products for a while now, so I wanted to give you some mini reviews!
Point Zero - I go crazy for brown lipstick, so, when I saw this, I was super excited. All three of the lip shades in this collection are Colourpop's Ultra Satin formula, which, as I have written before, is a really good formula. All the Satins are super creamy, apply well, and aren't drying. However, they aren't transfer proof, so they can be a little messy! Point Zero in particular has the normal Satin formula, so its very easy and comfortable to wear. As I said above, it's cool-toned and very, very brown. There's no disguising the fact that this is brown; it doesn't have any pinky undertones or anything like that, it's just BROWN. Personally, I like wearing brown lips, but I know that it's not be for everyone. If you're not already comfortable with wearing brown lipstick, I wouldn't recommend this product.
Alyssa - Like Point Zero, Alyssa is one of Colourpop's Ultra Satin formulas. Like I said above, the Satin lip products have a great formula. They're sort of like liquid lipsticks, but they don't dry completely, which makes them really comfortable to wear. Basically, it's an ordinary lipstick in liquid form, but it's not a liquid lipstick. I hope that makes sense. They aren't transfer proof, but otherwise they're great! Alyssa is a cool toned light pink. I think it's really flattering for nuetral, every day looks. Actually, this is probably the most wearable of the three lip shades from this collection. In general, KathleenLights does a good job of making sure her collab products work for a variety of skin tones. As you know, I'm very fair, but I think this shade of pink would also look really nice on someone with a deeper skin tone.
Mr. Bing - Mr. Bing is one of Colourpop's Creme Gel Liners. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that I think these eyeliners are amazing. However, there are certain shades I don't like as much. For example, No Shame and Fast Lane are drier and less pigmented than other shades. Unfortunately, Mr. Bing is one of those shades that I'm not super impressed with. First of all, it's an incredibly ordinary color. I think this liner was designed to be a warm toned brown, which is unusual since most brown eyeliners tend to me darker and more cool toned. However, on the waterline it just looks like brown. I haven't used this to tight line or anything like that, but to me it just looks like a normal brown eyeliner that you could get from any brand. I think this is mostly because it isn't very pigmented. For me, this eyeliner applies very patchily and doesn't deliver much color payoff. Plus, in my opinion, brown is a really common place color. I kind of wish KathleenLights had delievered something more unique. I know that she said that she picked brown because she felt like more people would be able to use it, but I wish she had played it a little less safe. I really wanted to love this eyeliner, but, even though I'll probably still use it, I was quite disappointed.
Anyway, those are my impressions of these new, Colourpop products. Over all, I would say that these are nice products, but not very innovative. I've definitely seen these sorts of shades/colors before. That being said, if you don't own lip/eye products in these sorts of shades, there's no time like the present to pick them up!
