Yes To: First Impressions Fridays
Whenever I get to Friday, I feel like I just barely managed to crawl over the finish line of some epic, cosmic marathon. I would continue with that metaphor, but I don't really know enough about running to make it sound convincing. Long story short: It's Friday, and I'm happy.
Anyway, this Friday, I want to give you some of my first impressions about a new brand I'm trying out (just to clarify, I mean "new" to me, not "new" to the earth). The brand is called Yes To and they make mostly skin care and cleansing products. My roommate uses some of their products, and she suggested them to me, so I ordered a few of their products from Ulta.com. I was really excited to try them because, according to their website, all of their products are 100% free of toxic ingredients and 95% natural, which I always appreciate. I don't always buy all natural products (which is obvious if you read my blog), but I think it's nice to get them if you have the option, especially for skin care. My roommate says the formula is perfect for her sensitive skin, since it's so gentle.
Yes To seems to have a few different lines of products, each based off of a particular fruit or vegetable (coconut, tomato, cucumber, etc.). All of the products I bought were from the coconut line (because when coconut is an option you should always say YES (that was a bad joke, I know)). I've been using all of them for about a week, so buckle up for first impressions!
Coconut Ultra Hydrating Overnight Crème Mask ($14.99) - I've really only been using nighttime moisturizers for about a year, so I'm still in the market for my go-to, holy grail nighttime moisturizer. It's a little too soon to say, but this may be it. First of all, the smell is AMAZING. I may be too preoccupied with scents in general, but that doesn't change the fact that this product smells like you just dipped your face in coconut ice cream (and if you've never tried coconut ice cream, you should take yourself to the supermarket and buy some right now). I also love the texture; it's just so thick and creamy. I feel like it's really attacking my skin (in a good way) and filling it up with moisture and nutrients. I'm not a fan of runny, liquidy moisturizers because, to me, it just feels like you're putting lotion on your face. If I wanted to put lotion on my face, I would put lotion on my face, okay? That wasn't what I was going for. Anyway, so far I'm very impressed with this product, although I haven't seen much of a noticeable difference in my skin.
Coconut Ultra Hydrating Overnight Eye Balm ($15.99) - Obviously, this is another moisturizing product. You're supposed to use it around your eyes, and I believe it's supposed to make your eyes look brighter and reduce your dark circles. So far, I haven't really seen much of a difference around my eyes, but it does smell wonderful and it's very gentle on the skin. I occasionally get some skin flakiness under my eyes and, since I've been using this product, I haven't had any flakiness. Of course, that could also be because of the time of year. I usually only have flakiness during the winter. However, I think that this would be a great product if you had dry eyelids/ under eyes.
Coconut Cleansing Wipes ($5.99) - I'm not super picky about makeup remover wipes; usually, I just buy whatever's on sale, which is usually good enough. My favorite wipes are Skyn Iceland's Glacial Cleansing Cloths, but they're quite expensive, so I hardly ever buy them. These wipes might be a close second for me. First of all, the coconut smell is amazing (I know, I know, I sound like a broken record). Secondly, they're really gentle. The cloth itself (or paper, or whatever it's made out of) is really soft, and the formula of the cleanser itself is gentle enough to use around your eyes without stinging. And, importantly, they take off your makeup; to be fair, you do have to do a bit of extra rubbing to get it all off, but they get the job done eventually. I also appreciate that these wipes are just moist enough, not too wet and not too dry. I get really annoyed when a makeup remover wipe is too dry. I also really appreciate that they come in packs of 30, not 25 (it just seems like you're getting extra value, you know?). It could be my imagination, but I also think they're a little bigger than standard makeup wipes. I'll have to measure and find out; stay tuned for more investigative reporting!
So, as you can see, I'm very pleased with Yes To in general. They have a good range of skin care products at fairly reasonable prices. I admit that the Eye Balm and Overnight Mask are a tad pricey, however, you're not going to find many products that are significantly cheaper. In my experience, overnight creams tend to run between $10 and $80, so, obviously, it could be worse. Yes To seems to be roughly in line with the pricing of brands like Aveeno and Neutrogena. I purchased my Eye Balm and Overnight Mask when Ulta was having a buy one get one 50% off sale, which saved me about $7. Ulta has these sorts of sales all of the time for skin care brands, but they're hardly ever announced, so you have to keep a look out! Personally, I like to stalk the sale page on Ulta's website.
Anyway, happy Friday!
