Fiona Stiles: First Impressions Friday
Okay, so this First Impressions blog is going to be the least first impression-y first impression ever. I bought these products during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale (the whole brand was 50% off!), so this is really like my 30th impression of these products. Unfortunately, 30th Impression Friday doesn't sound very good, so is my not-first impression first impression of Fiona Stiles' new-ish line of products.
In case you don't know, Fiona Stiles is a celebrity makeup artist who launched a new line of makeup about a year ago. Her brand is available exclusively at Ulta, and, I gotta say, it's a pretty complete line. She's got foundation, powder, eye shadow, blush, eyeliner, the works!
As a whole, my first impressions of the brand are positive. They're reasonably priced and the packaging is gorgeous. I love how everything is so pretty and purple and matching. The brand just looks so sleek and elegant.
I ended up picking up four products: two blushes, an eye pencil, and a brow product. I wanted to get one of their foundations and a powder, but they were sold out in my shades! (*Sad*) Anyway, these are my first (kind of) impressions of this brand.
Ultra-Smooth Waterproof Eye Defining Pencil in Mulholland ($16) - You guys know that I'm on the hunt for the perfect eyeliner, so, of course, I had to try Fiona Stiles' eyeliner. I picked up the shade Mulholland because everyone said that it was the most unique shade of eyeliner in the collection. I kind of wish I grabbed a different color though because I don't know if I dislike the eyeliner or if I just dislike this color. Although it swatches well, it's just not long lasting or pigmented on the eyes. Again, this might be just the shade I tried, but I'm probably not going to try another liner from this brand.
Soft Cheek Veil in Sweetwater ($20) - I feel like it's difficult to produce a bad blush. I've almost never tried a blush that I didn't like; that being said, I like this particular blush a lot. Sweetwater is a super pretty pale pink with a cool, blue undertone. It reminds me a bit of Benefit's Dandelion, which is one of my favorite blushes ever, except it's cooler and lighter (if you can imagine a blush lighter than Dandelion). If you're pale like me, you'd probably love this blush; however, it'll probably be too light on deeper skin. In terms of formula, the blush is buildable, blends well, and has a super light weight formula. Cheek Veil is a good name for this product. It's just a super light, super flattering wash of color. That being said, I don't think this blush is something you have to run out and buy immediately. It's not earth shattering and you can probably find dupes pretty easily. But, if you're in the market for a blush, I recommend checking this product out.
Soft Cheek Veil in Maiden Lane ($20) - The second blush I picked up was Maiden Lane, which is described as a "warm neutral pink." This blush has more or less the same formula as Sweetwater. The only difference seems to be that it's a tiny bit more difficult to blend. However, all and all, this is a good blush, and I can't really complain. I also think that this shade is a little more unique than Sweetwater. Maiden Lane has a terracotta undertone, which is really unusual in pink blushes. It's not as flattering on my skin as Sweetwater, but it's a nice color, and I think it would look amazing on deeper skin tones. Again, I don't think you need to run out and buy it immediately, but I'm not mad at this blush.
Brow Sculpting Wax ($16) - For a long time, eyeshadow has been my brow product of choice. However, I've been trying to get out of my comfort zone and try new brow products. I've never tried a brow wax before, but I think I like this product a lot. I was a little skeptical when I read that it only came in one universal shade because I have such dark brows, but this shade actually works pretty well for me. I typically don't use this product alone (although you could). Usually, I use this product to create a sort of outline around the edges of my brows, then fill in the center with eyeshadow. The shadow is a little darker, so the wax makes the brow "fade" naturally, while also giving it some structure. As with everything else I've discussed in this blog, this product is fine, but I don't think you need to buy this product immediately.
Long story short, based on what I've tried, this brand is just okay. The products are good, but they're nothing extraordinary. That being said, I obviously haven't had a chance to try everything from this brand. I wish I could have tried some face products, but, as I said, Ulta was out of all of my foundation and powder shades. Their foundations might be fantastic; I just don'e know. Based on what I've tried, I don't think you need to run out and buy anything from this brand right away, but, the next time you're in Ulta, you should head over to the Fiona Stiles section and check them out. You might just like them!
