Reviews: You Had Me At Aloha Eye Shadow Palette by Cargo
Guys, I'm so behind on reviewing palettes it isn't even funny. I've had this palette since February. That's right: FEBRUARY. I'm so ashamed. Anyway, I'm finally buckling down to review the You Had Me At Aloha Eye Shadow Palette by Cargo.
First of all, I want to start off this post by saying that I love Cargo as a brand. Cargo never seems to get any love from the beauty-verse, and it's a really great brand. You can buy Cargo products from Ulta. They're a reasonably priced brand and they're products are generally great, so you should go check them out.
A while ago, I wrote a review of Cargo's Land Down Under Palette, which is one of my favorite palettes of life. Because I liked that palette so much, I had to purchase the You Had Me At Aloha palette the second it was released. The You Had Me At Aloha Palette is limited edition, so I'm not sure if it's still available. But, if you can find it, it's $34 and it comes with 12 shadows, a brush, and an eyeliner. So, on product to dollar ratio alone, it's a great product.
I also want to give a shout out to the packaging. You guys know that I'm a sucker for pretty packaging, and I love the packaging of this palette. I remember that I complained that the Land Down Under Palette was white, so I'm glad that Cargo read my comments and adjusted their packaging accordingly.
It's also a very organized palette. The back of the box tells you that the palette is designed to form three quads and six duos. You're supposed to be able to do a look with every quad and a look with every duo. I don't know if that's true (come on, you need a matte white or cream in every look), but I like the idea of it. If you struggle to put eye looks together, this might be a very inspiring palette for you.
Now, let's break down the actual shadows:
As I said, there are 12 shadows. In terms of range of shades, I think this palette is great. You've got a really gorgeous bright yellow (and trust me guys, it's difficult to find good yellow eyeshadow), a caramel-esque transition shade, purples, browns, a gold, and a blue. You could do so many different looks with this palette; it's super versatile.
In terms of the actual quality of the shadows, however, I'm not as impressed. As I said above, I love the Land Down Under Palette, and I hoped that this palette would have the same formula. However, these shadows are a different formula. They seem drier, less pigmented, and there's a lot more fallout. However, there is some variation between the shades. A few shades (including Hibiscus, Luau, and Shell) have great formulas, but there are also a few shades that have like zero pigment (Hapuna and Shaka, I'm looking at you).
I'm not saying these shadows are unusable or anything, but I was hoping for better from Cargo.
Final rating: 6/10
