Reviews: Land Down Under Palette by Cargo
So, recently, Ulta had a 20% off sale for Platinum members, which means that I went shopping. One of the things I picked up was the Land Down Under Palette by Cargo. Cargo is one of those brands that never seems to get enough credit. I have a few Cargo products and I've always been impressed with their quality, yet, no one in the YouTube universe ever seems to talk Cargo products. In any case, I've been eyeing this eyeshadow palette for a while and I was super excited to get it.
As you can see, this palette comes with twelve eyeshadows, a brush, and an eyeliner. This palette is mostly cool-toned brown and gold shadows, but there are also a couple of blue and green pops of color. Cargo says that the palette is "inspired by the fabled sights and beaches of Australia." The formula on the shadows is really nice. They're really creamy, really blendable, and they're pigmented, but still buildable.
In terms of pigmentation, I'm not sure if these palettes are comparable with Urban Decay eyeshadows, but you can certainly achieve beautiful looks with these shadows. Personally, I don't mind buildable shadows; it's nice to be able to achieve a more subtle look when you want it. However, if you're adamant about only buying super pigmented, intense shadows, this palette is not for you.
Currently, my favorite shadows in this palette are The Rocks (which is a burnt, brownish red) and Suntan (which is a shimmery, copper red). I love to pack The Rocks into my crease and the outer part of my lids, and then pack Suntan into my inner corners. I use Koala, which is a cool-toned light brown, as the transition shade. The completed eyeshadow look is a gorgeous, shimmery, bronze-red look.
My only real disappointment with this palette is that there isn't a very good highlight shade. There is no basic, white matte in this palette. I've been using the shade Opera -- which is a creamy, off white shade -- as my brow bone highlight. However, I would prefer a brighter, "cleaner" shade.
The other thing I don't really like about this palette is the packaging. As you can see, the outside of the palette is all white, which, I don't like because it shows dirt and excess makeup dust really easily. The palette itself comes in a blue box and, honestly, I wish the palette itself was blue too. The white is certainly very pretty, but it doesn't stay that way for long.
In terms of price, the palette retails for $34, which is actually quite cheap for a high end eye shadow palette, especially since it includes a brush and an eyeliner. To be honest, I don't usually use the extra products that come with palettes, so I don't really have any opinion about the brush or the eyeliner. However, the extra products are an excellent value if you care to use them.
Final rating: 8.5/10
