Disappointing Products (Spring 2017)
So, a few months ago, I wrote two blog posts about disappointing products that I tried. I had so much fun venting about those disappointing products that I decided to do it again! Let's face it, it's nice to talk about products you like, but it's cathartic to talk about products you hate.
This is probably obvious, but I'm not trying to hate on you if you like some of these products. Different products work differently for different people. Products that work for me might not work for you and vice versa. With that being said, these are some products that didn't work for me:
Intuitive Blend Shade-Adjusting Foundation by Wet n' Wild ($5.99) - I cannot overstate how much I dislike this product. Usually, when I have a product I don't like, I do my best to use it anyway, and I'm usually able to make it work. I can't do ANYTHING with this product. When I saw it on Wet n' Wild's website, I thought it was a great idea. I mean, a self-adjusting foundation, that sounds great, right? WRONG. The base of this foundation is this thick, clear, primer like stuff. The pigment is in these little balls that are similar to the little balls you get in exfoliating face washes. These little balls are supposed to break down and mix into the foundation as you blend out your foundation. The only problem is that they either stay in ball form or the dye doesn't diffuse evenly. So, basically, you end up with these little spots of pigment and then parts of your face with no coverage whatsoever. So, obviously, I can't really do anything with that.
True Matte Finishing Powder by H&M ($10.00) - I picked this up on sale at H&M because I thought it would be nice setting powder. Here's what it was: eh. This was an incredibly mediocre powder. It applied unevenly and patchily, and it made my face look kind of cakey and dry. I used this up, so it was usable. However, I certainly won't be repurchasing it.
Take On the Day Mattifying Powder (Matte About You) by Wet n' Wild ($4.99) - I have two complaints about this powder: one, it's a bad powder and, two, it comes with two molecules of product. Seriously, I hit pan on this powder after like three days. IT'S SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF PRODUCT!!! I mean, I know it's only $4.99, but IT'S SO LITTLE PRODUCT!!!!! Seriously, the packaging to product ratio here is insane. There's SO MUCH PACKAGING! I would be surprised if the product took up 1/4 of the packaging. However, I'm not that upset about this because it's not that great of a product. Seriously, I feel like I'm rubbing ground chalk into my skin when I put this product on my face. It's rough and dry and applies unevenly. BLAH.
Limelight Light Source Illuminating Highlighter by Lorac ($23) - I wrote a full review of this product a little while ago. It's an interesting product with a creative idea behind it, however, in practice, I found this product kind of disappointing. On my skin, this highlight looks very grey and ashy. I think it would like nice on others, depending on their makeup still and skin tone, but, for me, it didn't work.
You Had Me At Aloha Eye Shadow Palette by Cargo ($34) - I really wanted to like this palette. I really, really did. I loved the Land Down Under Palette by Cargo, so, when I saw this palette, I was super excited and bought it immediately. I hate to say it, but this is no Land Down Under Palette. These shadows are kind of dry, they have a lot of fallout, and they're not very pigmented. If a different brand made this palette, I probably wouldn't be mad at this palette, but I have higher expectations for Cargo.
Anyway, those were some of the products that disappointed me this past Spring. I've got a lot of problems with these products, and now you're going to hear about it!
