Review: Dream St. Pressed Powder Shadow Palette by ColourPop

Okay, so I DIED when I saw that ColourPop was releasing this palette. DIED.

I love KathleenLights. I love ColourPop. I love eyeshadow palettes. Obviously, this was a match made in heaven for me. When I saw KathleenLights' video announcing this palette, I had to take a minute to compose myself before watching it. That's how excited I was. I knew before I watched the video that I was going to have to buy the palette. There could have been literally any set of shades in this palette, and I would have bought it. I trust KathleenLights' judgement and I like to support her, so I was willing to buy the palette no matter what.

When I actually saw the palette, I wasn't super thrilled about the colors. I think I have warm toned eyeshadow fatigue. It seems like every palette these days is full of warm toned browns and reds, and I'm tired of it, and I have to say that this palette is on the warm side. Obviously, a palette being warm toned isn't inherently bad; it's just not something that I would immediately gravitate too. I was also disappointed that this palette didn't have a matte white or matte cream shade. For me, a palette isn't "complete" unless it has a matte white or cream shade that I can use to set my primer. Although I have other palettes that have matte white shades, it's an annoyance to me to have to dip into other palettes for just one shade. I certainly wouldn't have purchased this palette if it wasn't connected to KathleenLights, but, because I trust KathleenLights, I decided to give it a try.

Now that I actually have the palette, I have to say that I have mixed feelings.

First of all, I have to say that the packaging is great. I love the rose gold, marbled design on the palette. I think it's really beautiful and elegant. I also like that the palette is so sleek and compact. I'm extremely annoyed by bulky packaging, so I appreciate that this palette takes up almost no space in my drawer.

I also think that this palette is a good value for the money. There are 12 shadows in this palette, and the palette costs $16, so you're paying a little more than a dollar a shadow. That's an excellent deal. Normally, single ColourPop shadows are $5 each. So, buying a ColourPop palette is a much better deal. True, the shadows in the palettes are smaller than the single shadows, but one rarely goes through an entire single shadow, so I still think it's a good deal.

I have mixed feelings about the actual shadows themselves.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about ColourPop powder shadows in general. I have a bunch of ColourPop powder shadows, and I love some of them and hate others (I wrote an entire blog about my ColourPop shadow collection, if you're interested). In my opinion, the quality is not consistent. In the case of this palette, I think the shadows are okay in terms of quality. I don't have any complaints about the matte shadows; they have a lot of fall out, but they're pigmented and easy to blend. I do get a fair amount of use out of the matte shadows in this palette, and I often use them with shadows from other palettes. On the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of the shimmer shades in this palette; they're not super pigmented, and I feel like you have to do quite a bit of work to build them up. My favorite shade in this palette is Moony, which is sort of satin, demi-shimmer shade. Moony is a gorgeous, easy-to-use, and pigmented shade. Long story short, I think the quality is a little hit and miss. However, I find that to be the case with all ColourPop shadows, so, if you like ColourPop shadows, you'll be happy with the quality of this palette.

In terms of the color selection, I have to say that I'm not crazy about this palette. If you like warm toned shadows, you'll probably be happy with this palette. However, as I said, I have warm toned shadow fatigue. If warm toned shadows appeal to you, you'll probably enjoy this palette. I have to say that I think it's good that Kathleen decided to include some pops of color, even though I don't really see myself using those shades very much. Aside from the pops of color, however, I think you could probably find dupes for most of these shades if you have a lot of warm toned palettes in your collection. I'm also annoyed that I can't really get a complete look out of this palette; I have to dip into other palettes for matte white and other shades. However, I know that shade selection is all about personal preference, so it really depends on what you want in your collection.

Overall, I think this palette is just okay, and it pains me to say that because I love KathleenLights. I would purchase this palette again, but only to support Kathleen. If it was just a plain old ColourPop palette that wasn't affiliated with anyone else, I probably wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. That being said, if the shades in this palette appeal to you, and you're on a budget, this palette might be a really good addition to your collection. I know that a lot of people do enjoy the ColourPop eyeshadow formula, so it's really all a matter of preference. However, as I said, this palette isn't really for me.
