My ColourPop Pressed Shadows Collection
I've been meaning to write this blog post for a while. And, when I say "a while," I mean since ColourPop released powder shadows...which was like a year ago.
As soon as ColourPop released powder shadows, I got really excited and bought a bunch of them shortly afterwards. I continued to buy more shadows throughout the year, but I haven't written about any of them ever on my blog, and I'm not really sure why.
At first, I wanted to write a blog reviewing the powder shadow launch and the formula, but it seems a little late in the game for that. So, instead I've decided to write about my ColourPop pressed shadow collection and give mini reviews of all the shadows I have.
In general, I find ColourPop's pressed shadows to be a mixed bag. The formula is pretty inconsistent in my opinion, but I've observed that the shimmers tend to be much better than the mattes. However, ColourPop does make some beautiful shadows; it's just a little hit or miss.
I will say that ColourPop delivers good value for the price; each single shadow is $4, which is obviously very affordable. Plus, ColourPop always seems to have some sort of sale going on, so you can probably get a discount if you're patient.
The other thing I'll say about these shadows is that ColourPop releases a ton of very unique shades. They do a good job of coming up with shades that are off the beaten path and stand out.
Anyway, without further ado, let's get into my shadow collection.
High Strung - This is a really fantastic shadow. It's creamy. It's pigmented. It's easy to blend. In terms of shade, it's a beautiful copper with strong gold undertones; ColourPop calls it a "metallic dusty rose." If you really like warm toned, coppery, gold toned shadows, I think this will be a great addition to your collection.
Pebbles - I got this shadow when I was going through a pink phase; I was really excited about it at the time, but this shadow let me down. It's described as a "warm coral with a frost finish," and I think that's fairly accurate. I was not at all impressed by this shadow. It's patchy and it's not very pigmented. When I wear it on the lid, it just blends away to nothing, and it's extremely difficult to build up the color. You could wear this as an eyeshadow topper, but I think it's kind of a flop.
Pinky Promise - I'm very "eh" about this shadow. It's okay, but it's not fantastic. It's fairly pigmented, and it's okay in terms of blendability. It's a shimmery, deep, reddish brown shadow. I think it's been discontinued now, but, if you didn't manage to pick this up, I don't think you're missing anything.
Going Steady - I am not a fan of this shadow. Not. A. Fan. It's VERY dry and VERY patchy. It's decently pigmented, but it's just so difficult to work with. I think this is because it's a purple; purples are notoriously difficult to formulate. ColourPop describes it as "matte dusty wine," which is fairly accurate. I think it's more of a pink toned warm purple. In any case, I do not recommend this particular shadow.
Labyrinth - This is another shadow that I don't love. It's kind of dry, kind of patchy, and it's not very pigmented. In general, I haven't been very impressed by ColourPop matte shadows; as I said, they tend to be rather dry. Labyrinth is described as a "matte dusty pink"; however, I think it's more of a peachy neutral shadow. This is an okay shadow, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Making Moves - Out of all of my ColourPop matte shadows, I think this is one of the better ones. It's also very dry, but it packs some pigment, and it's not as patchy as the other matte shadows. It's described as a "hot coral," which I think is pretty accurate. It's a pretty unique shadow in terms of shade. If you like the shade, I think this is worth picking up; however, as I said, the formula is not fantastic.
Stay Golden - This shade is really beautiful in terms of color; ColourPop describes it as "matte raspberry"; I think it's more of a deep matte red. I think this suffers from the ColourPop matte problem of being dry and difficult to blend. If you have the Modern Renaissance palette you probably don't need this palette; however, if you're looking for a cheap red shadow like this, Stay Golden might be a good option for you.
The News - I think this shadow is very similar to Labyrinth in terms of shade. It's a very neutral, peachy brown matte shadow. I think this shadow is okay. It's decently pigmented and it's fairly blendable. However, it is very dry, and I don't think this shade is very unique. I'm sure you could find a dupe for this shade with a better formula.
Snake Eyes - I don't think this shadow is unique, but it is a very nice shadow. It's described as "pale pink taupe," which I think is inaccurate; I think this is more of a neutral brown shimmer. In any case, this is a great "everyday" shadow. It's very work appropriate, and it's super easy to put it all over the lid with a matte brown in the crease and get out the door. I highly recommend this shadow.
Glass Bull - This shadow is so lovely and so UNIQUE. ColourPop describes it as "duochrome lavender icy-blue"; personally, I think it's more of a warm pinkish/reddish/brown duochrome with light green. I absolutely love this shadow. It's so interesting on the lid, and it pairs with so many different colors. I've paired it with pinks, greens, and neutral browns. I highly recommend picking up this shadow.
So Jaded - This is a beautiful shadow, but I just can't get it to work for me. It's described by ColourPop as "pale icy pink," and I think that's pretty accurate. It swatches beautifully, but I can't get that to translate to the lid. I've tried this shadow wet and dry, with brushes and with fingers, and it's always patchy. It's not very pigmented either. I don't expect light shadows to pack much of a punch, but this one just seems so dull and lackluster on the lid. It's usable when layered over other shadows, but, overall, this isn't my favorite ColourPop shadow.
Come and Get It - This shadow is new to my collection, so I haven't really had a chance to play with it, but I have high hopes. I've actually been wanting to pick up this shadow since ColourPop launched their powder shadows, but it was always sold out when I was placing ColourPop orders (until now, that is). As I've said, I tend to have better luck with ColourPop shimmer shadows, so I think I'll enjoy this shadow. It's a very unique "duochrome rose with a gold flip," and I don't have anything else like it in my collection.
If you have any ColourPop shadows, let me know what you think of them in the comments!
