Reviews: Born This Way Foundation by Too Faced

Today, I want to talk about the newest addition to my foundation collection: the Born This Way Absolute Perfection Foundation by Too Faced. I'm going to start off by saying that I know that I'm super late to the party with this product. I mean, how long has this foundation been out? I feel like I've been hearing about it forever, but I think it's only been out for about three years or so.

I've been wanting to purchase this foundation for a while, but I always held back in the past because it is an expensive foundation and it has gotten mixed reviews, particularly on YouTube. However, after swatching it a few times, I finally decided to cash in my Ulta points and buy it. I've had it in my collection for a couple of weeks now, so I want to give you a short review and share my thoughts about the foundation.

First of all, let's talk about the details: This foundation is available in 24 shades, which I think is a good shade range, although it could be better. I personally use the shade Swan, which is a very good match for me.  Each bottle of foundation contains 1oz of product and costs $39. Let's be real; that's an EXPENSIVE foundation. However, I think it's more or less in line with what other high end brands are charging to similar products. Personally, I don't believe that you need to spend a lot of money to get a good foundation, and there are certainly lots of fantastic drug store foundations out in the world. If you are in the market for a high end foundation, however, I don't think it's too expensive for what it is. Does that make sense?

Okay, now that we've gotten all of that out of the way, let's talk about the actual product.

First of all, let's all take a minute to appreciate the packaging. This foundation has beautiful packaging. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. As you can see in the photos, the bottle is very slick and elegant. I love the gold lettering, I love the frosted bottle, and -- most importantly -- I love that it has a pump. Seriously, every day is Christmas when your foundation has a pump; it just makes your life so much easier and more pleasant. I don't understand why foundations without a pump even exist! Foundations without a pump drive me bonkers! Every foundation would be better with a pump. Anyway, I'm going to get off my packaging soap box so I can talk to you about the actual formula of this foundation.

Spoiler alert: I love, love, love the formula of this foundation.

I think this is a beautiful foundation, and I think it's extremely flattering on the skin. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect from this foundation because I know that people tend to love it or hate it. My assessment is that you'll like this foundation if you like the idea of this foundation. This foundation is a light to medium coverage foundation with a skin like finish that provides a "your skin but better" look (hence, the name Born This Way). This foundation isn't going to cover blemishes or discoloration completely, so you have to be reasonably comfortable with your skin to wear this foundation. If you're not interested in those qualities in a foundation, you won't like this foundation.

Basically, you'll like this foundation if you like:

  • Light to medium coverage (the website does say medium to full, but, quite, honestly, I think it's light to medium)
  • A more "natural" look
  • A skin like finish
  • Foundation that enhances but doesn't completely cover your skin
  • Foundation that is light and comfortable on the skin

You probably won't like this foundation if you like:

  • A matte finish
  • Full coverage
  • Foundation that lasts longer than 8 hours
  • Foundation that holds up on oily skin
  • Foundation that covers texture, blemishes, and discoloration

Long story short, I think whether or not you'd like this foundation really depends on your personal preferences (which is true of most makeup). Personally, I love this foundation and I think it looks beautiful on the skin; however, I don't think it's for everyone.

Final Rating: 10/10
