Colour Riche Shine Lipstick (by L'Oreal) Review

Today I want to give you a quick review of L'Oreal's new (well, fairly new) Colour Riche Shine Lipsticks.

These lipsticks first caught my attention a few months ago when I saw Emily Noel's review on her channel. I immediately decided that I wanted to try these lipsticks and purchased three shades. I've been using these lipsticks for almost two months now, so I've had plenty of time to form an opinion about these lipsticks.

Before I jump into my review, you should know that this lipstick comes in 16 shades and each lipstick costs $9.99, which I think is a fair price for a L'Oreal lipstick.

Now, let's get to the review.

First of all, I want to talk about the packaging. As you can see, this lipstick comes in a clear plastic, faux crystal tube. I know a lot of people think that this packaging is very pretty, but it didn't really appeal to me at first. I find the packaging to be a bit bulky, and I think the clear plastic shows wear and tear very easily. Dirt and scratches are going to show up very easily on this packaging. However, it is very easy to be the shade of the lipstick through the packaging, which is a plus. That being said, I don't think the packaging is a reason not to buy the lipstick, and -- at the very least -- it is very eye-catching.

On the other hand, I think that the actual formula of these lipsticks is great. As the name implies, these lipsticks have a shiny, glossy finish. The formula itself is rather sheer (although it looks like the darker shades are more opaque); however, that seems to be intentional. Basically, these lipsticks are very pigmented lip glosses in a solid form. In my opinion, these lipsticks look very pretty and attractive on the lips, but, if you prefer matte or full coverage lipsticks, this probably won't be the lip product for you. This lipstick formula was clearly designed for people who want a light, comfortable, glossy lip. You're going to have to re-apply this lipstick often and you're never going to get a lot of color pay off, but it is extremely comfortable, and it's not sticky like a lip gloss. Plus, this lipstick has a great scent; it almost smells like sweet tarts. At the end of the day, it's really about what you want out of your lipstick.

I think you'll like this lipstick if:
  • You don't mind re-applying lipstick
  • You like shiny/glossy lips
  • You like a sheer wash of color on the lips
  • You enjoy products with scents
  • You value comfortable lip products
You won't like this lipstick if:
  • You like long lasting lipsticks
  • You like full coverage/opaque lipsticks
  • You like matte lipsticks
  • You dislike scents in makeup
Now, let's take a minute to talk about the shade selection. I picked up three shades (out of 16): Dazzling Doe, Glossy Fawn, and Varnished Rosewood. Varnished Rosewood is a brown toned pink that looks very natural on the lips; it's certainly my favorite. Dazzling Doe, which is my second favorite, is a brown toned nude. Glossy Fawn, which is a peachy nude, is my least favorite because the shade doesn't really falter my skin tone. All and all, however, I think 16 shades is a pretty decent shade range. There are a lot of different nudes and bright shades, and I truly think that there is a shade in this shade range for the vast majority of people.  I have heard that the nude shades tend to be better than the bright shades; however, I haven't tried any bright shades, so I can't comment on that. I often wear these lipsticks over lip liners to improve the wear time of the lipsticks and intensify the color.

As I said above, I think whether or not you'll like this lipstick depends on what you want in a lipstick. Personally, I like these lipsticks a lot. I think they look great with casual, every day looks, and I wear them to work often. I usually don't mind reapplying lipsticks, and I don't mind carrying the lipstick tube around with me. Of course, as I just said, it all depends on the look you're going for and what you personally like in a lipstick. However, for me and my makeup vibes, these lipsticks are great.

Final rating: 10/10
