The Zodiac Collection by ColourPop X Kathleen Lights Review

What's your sign?

I'm a Leo, my rising sign is Scorpio, and my moon sign is Libra.

I'm telling you all of this because Kathleen Lights recently released a Zodiac collection with ColourPop. I've been watching Kathleen Lights for a long time, and she's one of my favorite YouTubers, so I always like to support her when she does collabs. Kathleen also seems to be really into astrology, so a Zodiac collection seems like a natural fit for her.

Personally, I'm not super into astrology, and I don't think I'm really very Leo-ish. However, reading horoscopes and such can be fun, and ColourPop's horoscope for me was weirdly accurate last month. I also think that the Zodiac is a really cool concept for an eyeshadow palette, so I was really excited when Kathleen announced her collection.

There are a bunch of things in this collection (highlighters, supernova shadows, an eyeshadow palette, and lipsticks), but I only picked up the eyeshadow palette and one lipstick because I wasn't really interested in the other products. I've been using the products for a while, so, today I'm going to be reviewing the Crème Lux Lipstick in Scorpio Moon and the Zodiac eyeshadow palette for you. So, without further ado, let's get into the reviews!

The Zodiac Palette

Let's be real, whenever a makeup collection comes out, the eyeshadow palette is usually the most exciting part of the collection. In this case, I certainly thought that the eyeshadow palette was the most exciting part of the Zodiac collection. As Kathleen explained in her launch video, each shade in the palette is supposed to reflect the characteristics of one signs of the Zodiac; however, it was important to her that the palette was still wearable and usable, so the shades are surprisingly cohesive.

As you probably guessed, there are 12 shades in the palette. The shade selection itself is pretty varied; you have a pretty wide array of colors in this palette: purples, golds, browns, and blues. However, you can tell that Kathleen wanted the palette to be cohesive in that a lot of the shades in the palette complement each other. For example, The Libra, The Scorpio, and The Sagittarius all complement each other beautifully. That being said, I don't think this is a one and done palette. You're probably going to have to bring in extra shadows to truly achieve a complete look with this palette. When I was doing looks with this palette, I always found myself reaching for other palettes for one or two additional shadows. However, if you already own a lot of other palettes (and I assume that most people reading this blog are interested enough in makeup to own a few palettes), this probably wouldn't be much of a problem for you. Kathleen herself noted that she often uses this palette with her Dream St. Palette. Even so, this palette isn't for you if you're a neutral shadow lover; there are a lot of colorful shades in this palette and not a ton of neutrals.

In terms of formula, my opinion of this palette is more mixed. I've had mixed experiences with ColourPop shadows (yet, I continue to buy them for some reason). Sometimes, the shadows are great, and sometimes I find them to be mediocre or even bad. The same is true of this palette. I really struggle with the formula of The Aquarius, for example. I find it to be very patchy and difficult to blend. However, shades like The Libra have great formulas. So, I'm not sure what to say about the formula of this palette. It's very dependent on the shade. Most of the shades have a pretty decent formula; they're decently pigmented, fairly blendable, and not too powdery. However, there are a couple of shades that are just difficult to work with.

Now, let's talk about the fantastic packaging. I'm a sucker for good packaging, and this palette certainly has good packaging. It's very sleek and elegant, and I love having all the different signs on the packaging. It looks really cool.

Long story short: the palette itself costs $18, which is pretty affordable. If you like the shades, the palette is an excellent value for the money. Personally, I probably wouldn't have purchased this palette if it wasn't a Kathleen Lights palette, and I don't find myself naturally reaching for it. However, if you know you would use these shades, I recommend this palette.

Final rating: 6.5/10

Scorpio Moon Crème Lux Lipstick

The other product I picked up from the Zodiac Collection is the Crème Lux Lipstick in the shade Scorpio Moon.

I picked this product up because it's purple-toned, plummy pink, and cool toned pinks tend to be flattering on me. It's a really beautiful shade, and I think it's very wearable and definitely office appropriate.

I certainly didn't pick this product up for the formula because I don't really like the Crème Lux Lipstick formula. I find it to be a little too dry, even when the shades aren't matte. The texture of the lipstick is very stiff, and it doesn't glide onto the lips easily. It's also not very long wearing, but I expect that when wearing a traditional bullet lipstick.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to lipstick formulas, and I know that a lot of people really like this particular formula. I don't mind this formula, but it wouldn't be my first choice, and there are certainly drugstore lipsticks that have formulas that I prefer more.

One advantage of this lipstick is that it has BEAUTIFUL packaging. It feels heavy and luxurious when you hold it in your hands, and it's just super super pretty. I love the stars on the tube; they're super cute.

Overall, I'm happy that I have this lipstick because I like the shade, but I'm not the biggest fan of the formula.

Final rating: 6/10
