Review: Gen Nude Aurora Lights Eyeshadow Palette by BareMinerals
First of all, I want to start off by saying that I know this review is very late. I'm sorry. I have a huge backlog of eyeshadow palettes to review and, for some reason or another, I keep buying new ones!
Anyway, the Gen Nude Aurora Lights Eyeshadow Palette was BareMinerals' holiday release. Even though it was limited edition, it's still available on certain websites and might still be for sale in certain stores. So, I think it would be pretty easy to find it if you were so inclined.
Overall, I don't think this palette got a lot of attention. That being said, there are so many holiday makeup releases that it's understandably tough for YouTubers and bloggers to pay attention to everything, and BareMinerals is a brand that isn't talked about as much as others.
Nonetheless, I do think this palette deserved more attention than it received. When it was released, it immediately caught by attention because the color scheme was very different from all the other holiday palettes that were being released at the time. As you can see, this is a very cool toned palette, which is not necessarily unique. However, this palette plays with color in an interesting way, in my opinion. It includes a lot of blues, greens, and purples, but the colors are quite neutral and wearable. These shades are a great way to wear colorful eyeshadow if you're not totally comfortable walking around with bright shadows on your lids. In my experience, it's also quite rare to find a cool-toned, colorful palette. I also think these shades are going to be more flattering on mature eyes.
Before I dive into talking about the formula, I have a couple of quick comments to make on the packaging. Overall, the packaging is beautiful. As you can see in the photos, it has a beautiful white lid with a gold design. However, it isn't really practical. I mean, I think we all know that that lovely white cardboard is going to get dirty in about three and a half seconds once you really start to use it. Also, the pans on the inside are quite small. It's actually a little tough to get your brush into some of the shades in a convenient way. Personally, I think they could have included one or two fewer shades and made the pans slightly bigger.
In any case, packaging isn't really important unless the formula is also good, and I do think this is a good formula. By no means do I think the formula is exceptional; it certainly isn't the best eyeshadow formula I've ever used. I would say it's average for a high-end brand like BareMinerals. I'm satisfied with the formula, it just didn't blow me away. The shades are easy to blend, and there's not a lot of fall out. The shades aren't super pigmented, but they are buildable, so you can control the intensity of the shades as you apply them.
Long story short, I think this is a good palette. I don't think it's earth shattering or ground breaking, but it does have a really unusual and creative color scheme. So, if you dig these shades, you would probably really enjoy this palette.
Final rating: 7.5/10
