Review: So Juicy Plumping Gloss by ColourPop
Now, I'm not a lover of lip gloss, but I have been getting into lip gloss a little more recently, so I decided to check out these glosses.
Before I start talking about these glosses, I should make one thing perfectly clear: ColourPop has another line of lip glosses and these are a) not the same as and b) not a replacement for those glosses. I have a couple of those glosses in my collection, and, while I like the formula, I hate the applicator, so I don't use them very often. On the other hand, the So Juicy glosses are an entirely new product from ColourPop with a new formula and shade range.
Right off the bat, I want to say that I like the packaging for this product more than the packaging they use for their other glosses. It gives me serious party-favor-that-I-got-in-gift-bags-at-early-2000s-birthday-parties vibes, but I'm not mad at it. The squeeze tube lets you see how much product you have and makes it easier to use every drop of product. The applicator is also MUCH better. Maybe it's not the most elegant packaging in the world, but it works.
I will say, however, that I think this product is a little over priced based on the packaging. Each gloss is $7, which seems like a lot for a product in a clear plastic squeeze tube. I feel like $5 would have been more reasonable. However, it's still pretty affordable, so I'm not too upset about it.
Now, let's take a minute to talk about shade selection. I picked up the shade Type of Way (I'll probably be picking up more shades pretty soon). ColourPop describes it as a cool petal pink, which I think is accurate. I think their current shade selection is pretty decent. I'd like to see some more neutral shades. Although, TBH, most of these shades probably look pretty similar and pretty neutral once you actually get them on the lips. I think most people will be able to find a shade they're happy with in this line. Plus, I'm sure ColourPop will be releasing more shades in the near future.
Now for the main event: let's talk about the formula. As the name suggests, this is a plumping gloss. Personally, I don't think plumping products ever actually make a difference in the appearance of my lips (which is probably good because it seems unwise to consistently use a product that irritates your lips enough to make them swell noticeably). I didn't really buy this gloss with the expectation that it was going to make my lips more "plump." However, this gloss does tingle when you apply it, which is actually pretty pleasant. It also has a minty smell, which I enjoy. In terms of the actual formula, it is pretty sticky. If that's something that bothers you, this gloss isn't for you. I think more is less with this gloss. If you apply too much, it tends to glop up on the inside of your lip. Other than that, I have no complaints about this formula.
Overall, I enjoy this gloss, and I'll probably be picking up other shades.
Final rating: 7.5/10
I'm a lipgloss lover! I've used Mac's lipglass in Explicit, forever. I never stray from what I love, but something about the So Juicy packaging drew me in. I've only used the QT and would love some more neutral, silvery taupe type shades to be added. I think $7.00 is an absolute steal! I'd without a doubt give this gloss a 10/10!! Just give me more colors😘
