Reviews: Extra Dimension Eye Shadow by MAC

So, I went on vacation in May and, in true vacation fashion, I did a whole lot of shopping. One of the things I picked up was an Extra Dimension Eye Shadow by MAC, which I was super excited to try out.

First of all, I have to say that this shadow has a great formula (I mean, come on, it's MAC, what do you expect?). It's creamy, it's pigmented, it's blendable, the whole shebang. It's not crumbly or dusty, and there's no fallout (actually, it's a little too hard; you really have to work with your brush to pick the product up). MAC describes the texture as "A hybrid shadow that’s smooth like a cream, blendable like a liquid and finishes like a powder," which is fairly accurate if you ask me. Plus, it's super long lasting, and, when I say long lasting, I mean LONG lasting. I can put it on at 7AM and it looks exactly the same at 7PM. If you just want to put something on your eyes and get out the door without any worry, this is the product for you. Basically, it's super high quality and the formula is as close to perfect as it gets.

I also love the packaging. As you can see, it comes in the standard, round MAC case. I like MAC's packaging because the clear lid makes it really easy to find the shade you're looking for. Also, it's embossed with a really cool design that looks a bit like a wave interspersed with the word "MAC." (Make your own conclusions about the design, clearly, I'm no good at describing it).

The only downside is that it doesn't come in a very wide selection of shades. There's only 18 to pick from (come on MAC, give us more!), and a lot of them are very dark. Also, they're all shimmer shades. I mean, it's not shiny like MAC's Foiled Shadow is shiny, but it still has a distinct shine. So, if you're all about matte shadows, this isn't for you. I have the shade Sweet Heat, which is a golden, neutral champagne shade (MAC describes it as "soft peach pink," but I disagree). Personally, I like it because it's very versatile and you can produce a lot of different looks with it.

Each shadow retails individually for $20, which, I know, seems a little steep. However, you do get a lot of product for your money and it's very high quality. Also, compared to other high-end, single shadows, it's actually relatively inexpensive. For example, NARS' Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow is a similar product and it costs $29. So, you're really getting a deal.

Final rating: 10/10
