Disappointing Products (Fall 2017)

Today, I want to talk about some products that disappointed me. I don't like to be critical of products/brands for the sake of being critical, but I do think it's helpful to let other consumers know the cons of certain products before they buy them. In my opinion, it's always good to hear a wide range of opinions about products before purchasing them, so that you can make an informed decision.

So, without further ado, these are some products that recently disappointed me:

Dry Shampoo in Tropical by Batiste - I've tried to like Batiste dry shampoos; I really have. I just find them to be a lot of work to use. You really have to work them into your hair really well if you don't want them to leave a white cast. I've also tried to use the tinted kind, but found that the dye in the dry shampoo came off on my hands when I touched my hair. In my opinion, dry shampoo is supposed to be a time saving product that you use when you don't have an opportunity to wash your hair. It isn't time saving if you have to sit and work it into your hair for 20 minutes. I had the tropical version of Batiste's dry shampoo (which did actually smell very nice), but I just recently gave this product away to one of my former roommates. Needless to say, I will not be repurchasing.

Le Crayon Khôl Smoky Eyeliner by Lancome - Here's the thing about this eyeliner. It's made by Lancome. If this eyeliner was made by like e.l.f. or something, I would be more forgiving. But, I feel like Lancome can do better, especially since this liner is like $26 full size (fortunately, I got this for free in a sort of mini, gift/sample set). This is just such a dry liner! I feel like you really have to push and tug to get any sort of color payoff from this liner. It's not very long lasting either. You get a couple of hours wear and then it's gone. You can go to Wal-Mart and grab a Rimmel liner that's 10 times better. Lancome has no excuse. If you're going to charge $26 for a liner, it had better be worth it!

Shine Free Oil Control Loose Powder by Maybelline - In general, I like most powders, and I do my best to make most powders work. I've been using this powder for a while, and am planning to use it up (I'm actually pretty close), but I don't like it at all. First of all, I purchased this powder in the shade light; I don't know who would call this powder "light." I think it's more a light/medium situation. It's definately a couple of shades too dark and warm for me, but, with a light hand, I can make it work. It also feels very heavy on the face. I get that it's supposed to be oil controlling, but that doesn't mean it has to be so heavy! It looks very heavy and cakey on the face. Maybe if you're oily in the extreme, you would like this, but I don't think it would work for most people.

Volum' Express The Mega Plush Mascara by Maybelline - It may be unfair to call this mascara disappointing. There's really nothing wrong with it, I just find this mascara to be very blah. It's not very volumizing; it's not lengthening; in my opinion, it just makes your lashes look darker. This is an affordable mascara, and it's good for layering, so I guess I can't be too mad at it, but I wouldn't use it on its own, and I wouldn't recommend it.

HD Pro Concealer by L.A. Girl - I know that people love this concealer, but I just can't get behind it. I picked it up in two shades--Porcelain and Lavender Corrector--when it was on sale a while back. I've been using both concealers for over a month now, and I just can't get into them. The formula just feels very heavy on the skin, and it creases so easily on me. And, it doesn't really completely cover my dark circles either. Plus, porcelain, which is the lightest shade, is WAY too dark and yellow toned for me. The packaging is also a down side; I really hate the squeeze bottle with the brush applicator. I feel like that should be banned for all concealers; I just find it so difficult and annoying to use.

Tomatoes Clear Skin Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes by Yes To - It's sort of my fault that this product didn't work for me. I didn't really read the description of the product, and I more or less just assumed that it was a makeup removing wipe. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that these are not makeup removing wipes. These wipes are intended to be some sort of acne fitting, skin clarifying, cleansing wipes. This isn't really the sort of product that I need/use, so I didn't really have any use for it. I'm trying to use them up, but they're really just an extra step in my routine that doesn't really do anything. Even if I did have problems with acne etc, I'm not really sure how I would use this product. Are you supposed to use this wipe before you wash your face? After you wash your face? These wipes certainly don't have enough cleansing power to be used on their own. I guess I just don't understand the point of these wipes or how one would use them. This product has pretty decent ratings on Ulta's website, so, clearly, some people use them and like them, but I'm not one of those people.

Beautiful Skin Age Defense Cleanser by No7 - I straight up don't know how this is supposed to work as a cleanser. I'm not crazy, right? It's supposed to clean your skin, right? I mean, it is in the name of the product. If this is a soap, it's way too mild to get any sort of oil or dirt off your face. Like, creamy cleansers are great, but they have to actually clean your skin. I feel like my face still felt oily after washing it with this product. I finally broke down and bought another facial cleanser that actually works; I've been mixing this product in with that product to use it up, but I feel like this does nothing for my skin. I guess if your skin was extremely dry, you might like this, but I don't think it's going to work for most skin types.

Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum by No7 - I'm sorry to be hating on No7 in this post, but this is another No7 product that seems to do absolutely nothing for my skin. Like, I've been using this almost every day for more than a month. It's not adding anything to my skin; it just feels like an extra--and fairly useless--step in my routine. It's not like this serum does anything bad, it just doesn't make any difference. And, for $24.99, I need this product to make some sort of difference.
