Review: Holographic Stick in Supernova by Milk Makeup

I've been wanting to try Milk Makeup forever. I'm really intrigued by the idea of a cosmetic brand that tries to make makeup application quicker and easier. I believe their tagline is "Milk girls do their makeup quick." I mean, I would like to do my makeup quick. I don't think that's going to happen, buti it's nice to dream. So, about a month ago, I decided to treat myself to Milk's Holographic Stick (which is basically a roll-on highlighter) in the shade Supernova (actually, I think that's the only shade it comes in).

Gotta be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of this product. I was super excited to try this out because I love purple-toned highlights and this looked like a beautiful purple-toned highlight. True, this highlight is really pretty when you swatch it, but the formula is incredibly mediocre.

The Holographic Stick is a creme highlight,  but it's the least creamy and least blendable creme highlight that I've ever used. First of all, it's in roll-on stick packaging, which doesn't make much sense to me because it's way too thick and "stiff" (for lack of a better word) to actually "roll" on to your face. It's just incredibly dry and distinctly un-creamy. I usually end up applying this highlight with my fingers, which is a pain because I don't know why it's in roll-on packaging if you can't roll it on. Irritating. Very irritating. Even if you do try to roll this product directly onto your face, you're probably going to get more foundation on your Holographic Stick than highlighting product on your face. Then, you have a gross layer of foundation on your Holographic Stick that you have to scrape off before you use it again. Ugh.

I also find that this product applies very patchily. I'm not sure if this is because of my application style (it might be; as I said above, I use my fingers) or if it's just the formula. In any case, I usually end up dusting some powder highlight over this product in order to even it out. In my opinion, it doesn't look good enough to wear alone

Overall, I was disappointed by this product. For the price ($28), I expected something much better. This definitely is not worth the money. If you want a good creme highlight, save yourself a few dollars and buy a Colourpop highlight ($8).

Final rating: 4/10
