Brush Haul & Reviews

Okay, so I don't exactly know how this happened, but, somehow, this became makeup brush month for me. (Clearly, I'm not complaining). I ended up buying three brushes this month, which is odd for me because usually I buy makeup brushes once in a blue moon (or, once in a pink moon because I like pink).

Brushes by Wet n' Wild ($.99 - 2.99): So, first off, I bought two brushes from Wet n' Wild's new line of brushes. And, as you may or may not be able to guess, I bought them because Kathleen Lights recommended them. I bought the blush brush and the small concealer brush (because almost everything else was out of stock). Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with these brushes. They're very soft, very pretty, and very, very cheap. And, when I say cheap, I mean $.99 to $2.99. I would say that these are good basic brushes. However, the bristles aren't very tightly packed, which means it isn't the best at blending product on your face. I actually use my blush brush for highlighting for that reason. I actually quite like my concealer brush. It's small enough to get right under my lower lashes when I do my under eye concealer. Over all, these brushes are well worth the money, even if you have to put a little more effort into making them usable. Final rating: 6/10

Velvet Luxe LBD Powder Brush by IT Brushes for Ulta ($48): So, the third brush I bought is the single most expensive makeup "tool" I own -- I don't think my light up mirror even cost this much! It is the complete opposite of my Wet n' Wild brushes in that respect, but I absolutely love it. This brush is from the Velvet Luxe line by IT, which is an absolutely gorgeous line of brushes. Like every brush by IT, it is super soft and super good quality. There is absolutely no shedding at all, the bristles are very tightly packed, it blends like a dream, and it is soft enough to be a pillow. Seriously, in terms of quality, this brush puts my other brushes to shame. It's like it's the mother brush and all my other brushes are babies. Does that make sense? The biggest drawback is the cost. I technically didn't pay for this because I bought it with my Ulta points, but, I probably wouldn't have been able to justify the expense otherwise. It's also sort of the victim of it's own success. The bristles are so densely packed that it can actually be a little difficult to pick up powders -- and this brush is designed for powder. I currently use it for my finishing/setting powder because it doesn't pick up my powder foundation very well at all. However, once you get the product on your face it blends beautifully. Honestly, there's nothing like it. So, all in all, it depends on your makeup needs, but, for my purposes it's wonderful. Final rating: 9/10
