Reviews: Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip

So, a couple of weeks ago, Colourpop released a new line of lip products: Ultra Satin Lip, which is a satin, non-matte liquid lipstick. Anyway, I was super excited  to try this product after I saw KathleenLight's swatch video, so I ordered one as soon as it was released. I've been testing it out since then and I wanted to give you my thoughts.

First of all, as you know, I have somewhat mixed thoughts about Colourpop as a brand. Some of their products are amazing, some are just okay, and some are really disappointing. This product is pretty good, but it didn't quite meet my expectations given my experience with Colourpop's Ultra Matte Lip.

Hand's down, the biggest problem Colourpop has as a brand is that it's really difficult to pick a shade from their online images. Every Colourpop product I have ever owned has either been darker or lighter in shade than it looked online. In this case, I purchased the Ultra Satin Lip in the shade Too Lips and it was much darker than it appeared online. For me, that's okay because I don't mind bold lip shades, but, if you want to buy from Colourpop, be aware that the shade may not be quite what you thought it was. Online, Too Lips looks like it has a reddish brown undertone; in reality, the undertone is very purple -- which you can see on my face below (excuse my unenthusiastic expression; it was early in the morning).

The second thing to be aware of is that this does not having the same long-lasting, staying power of Colourpop's Ultra Matte Lip. You will definitely have to reapply this product throughout the day, especially if you're eating or drinking. It is not transfer proof either; the color will get on your silverware and water bottles, etc. Also, it does have a tendency to feather, so you may want to use a lip liner with this product.

That being said, this product is very pigmented, which Colourpop is known for. So, even if you get some product on your water bottle or something like that, it will remain on your lips and look just fine. It is also super moisturizing, which is nice since a lot of liquid lipsticks have a reputation for being drying. Honestly, the formula is more like a regular lipstick that just happens to be a lipstick -- which is fine. I would describe it as a cross between Colourpop's Ultra Matte Lip and Lippie Stix.

The other big advantage is the cost; the Ultra Satin Lip is only $6, which, for the quality, is an amazing price. So, all things considered, I would say that it's worth the money to work around its flaws.

Final rating: 7/10
