Review: Be Kissed By The Moon Eye & Face Palette by Essence
So, I recently picked up the Be Kissed By The Moon Eye & Face Palette by Essence on a whim (which is how I buy most of my makeup). I'd seen it online before, and I was intrigued by it, so when I saw it in Ulta, I decided to just buy it and give it a go.
Now, this palette is described as an eye and face palette, but, from my perspective, it's just a highlight palette. You could certainly use these shades as eyeshadows, but they're pretty sheer, so they'd be more like eye toppers. I've read other reviews of this palette, and I know that some people use the two biggest pans as blushes, but, from my perspective, they're too shimmery for that.
Suffice it to say that I consider this to be a highlight palette, and that's the basis for this review. I'm not going to talk about how this palette performs as an eyeshadow palette or anything like that. Anyway, I've had this palette for a few weeks, I've used it a lot, and, it turns out, I really like it; so let's get into the review.
The Details
Let me start by saying that this palette is absurdly cheap, which is one of the things that I like about Essence as a brand. This palette is only $5.99, which is obviously an amazing price. It comes with six shades (four small pans and two large pans), so you're getting an amazing value for your money.
The Packaging
The packaging on this palette isn't terribly impressive (but it's $5.99, so what do you expect?), but the silver design on the lid is kind of cute, and it's simple in an elegant way, which I like. It's made out of clear hard plastic, and it's pretty sturdy. I would feel very comfortable traveling with this palette.
The Shade Selection
I know that a lot of people are complaining that the iridescent, colorful highlighter trend is overdone, but, personally, I really enjoy colorful, ethereal-looking highlights. So, naturally, I really like the shade selection in this palette.
From my perspective, there are three wearable shades in this palette and three not-so-wearable shades. I wear the orangish shade, the pinkish shade, and the yellowish shade on an almost daily basis. However, I don't wear the blue shade, green shade, and dark pink shade very often. All six shades are very pretty and flattering on the skin. Although, I have to say that the shade selection is slanted towards pale people; I don't think many people with medium to dark skin tones will be able to use this palette. Even if you're not going to wear the more unusual shades, I still think it's worth picking up the palette for the wearable shades.
On the plus side, you've got so many radically different shades that you can use this palette for almost any look.
The Formula
Unpopular opinion: The formula of this palette is what the formula of the Anastasia Moonchild Glow Kit should have been. As I wrote in my review of the Moonchild Glow Kit, I don't really like the formula of the Moonchild palette. I think it's kind of dry and dusty. Whereas the Be Kissed By The Moon Eye & Face Palette has a really creamy, blendable texture. Unlike the Moonchild palette, there are no big chunks of glitter; the highlights have a very smooth, shimmery look on the skin.

Honestly, I think the formula of this palette is almost perfect. I can't imagine any formula that's better for the money.
Conclusion
I really love this palette; I honestly don't think you can buy better highlights for the money, and this palette is better than even some really expensive highlights. I find myself reaching for this palette all the time, and, if you like the shades in this palette, I can't recommend it enough.
Final Rating: 9/10
