Review: Fame Palette by ColourPop

In a twist that everyone saw coming, I've decided to expand my eyeshadow palette collection by buying -- get this -- another neutral eye palette! Who's surprised? This time, it's the Fame Palette by ColourPop.

Now, this palette got a lot of hate when it was released, and I sort of see why. It's not a terribly exciting palette; neutral palettes have certainly been done before, and anyone who's interested in makeup already has a pile of palettes full of shades like this. That being said, I do appreciate that ColourPop released a cool toned eyeshadow palette in the midst of warm toned palette mania. Personally, I was intrigued by the idea of a cool toned ColourPop palette, so I decided to give it a try, even though I have a million dupes for the shades in this palette.

I've now had the palette for a few weeks, and I've used it quite a bit, so I'm ready to review it! Spoiler alert: I really like this palette.

The Details

First of all, let's take a minute to discuss the details of this palette.

The palette costs $22 and contains 16 shadows, which I think is pretty good value for the money. It doesn't contain a mirror.

The Packaging

The packaging of this palette is not my favorite. It's made of sturdy cardboard, like all the other ColourPop palettes. However, I'm not a big fan of the decoration on the front of the palette; it's just not very pretty. That doesn't really matter to me as long as the shadows inside are good; however, I think ColourPop could have done better.

The palette also doesn't contain a mirror, which I don't mind because I don't usually use the mirrors in palettes. However, it's something to be aware of if that matters to you.

The Shade Selection

As I said above, I really enjoy cool toned eye shadows. So, naturally, I really enjoy the shade selection in this palette. I'm a very cool toned person, so these shadows are very flattering on my skin. Obviously, It is a very neutral palette, so if you're not about that, you probably won't like this palette. Some people have said that the shades in this palette are boring, and I understand that criticism. To be honest, you probably have a lot of these shades in your collection already. There's nothing in this palette that is super unique. However, it is a very complete palette, which I appreciate. It's very easy to do an entire look with just this palette.

A lot of the shades in this palette are shades that I have in other palettes. But, I wear neutral shadows a lot and I enjoy using them, so I don't mind that these shadows are repeats for me, and I've been using the palette a lot.

My favorite shades in this palette are Show Boat and Debutante. They're both very pretty all over the lid. My go-to look with this palette is to apply Celeb as a base all over the lid and brow bone, then I blend Razzle into the crease, apply Show Boat and Debutante all over the lid, and then finish by adding a little bit of Stardom and Lifestyle to the outer corner. It's a very quick, easy look.

In any case, if you need more neutral shadows in your collection or you need a compact, complete neutral palette, I would highly recommend this palette.

The Formula

I've written before that I don't really like the formula of ColourPop shadows. That's true. In the past, I've found their formula to be very hit and miss. Some of their shadows perform really well, and some of them are just bad.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by the formula of these shadows, and, best of all, they're consistently good across the entire palette. It's as if ColourPop read my blog and addressed all my complaints! The shimmer shades are pigmented, opaque, creamy, and apply evenly. The mattes blend well and apply without patches. In general, all the shadows are easy to work with. I find it very easy to just pick up this palette and start using the shadows, which is very refreshing after struggling to make the ColourPop shadow formula work well in the past.

I feel like ColourPop has come a long way from the first powder shadows they released, and their hard work really shows in this palette. I'm very impressed with this formula.

Conclusion

Over all, I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like this palette. I've liked ColourPop shadows in the past, but, in general, I've found them to be a little hit or miss. It's clear they really took their time when formulating these shadows, and I'm impressed by the result.

I find myself reaching for this palette all the time, which really says something considering the sheer number of palettes I have.

Final Rating: 9/10
