May: A Month of Nail Polish

Last month, I started a series of blog posts about the nail polish I wear every month. So, if you enjoyed embarking on a nail polish voyage with me last month, climb aboard the nail polish cruise ship with me.

Ladybird by Butter London and White Out by Sally Hansen - The first manicure I did this month was based on this tutorial I watched about how to create nail art hearts with dotting tools. As you can see, it worked out alright. I struggled a bit to make the hearts neat and they ended up looking a bit like Micky Mouse ears.

Black Out by Sally Hansen, Stardust by Butter London, and Petrol by Butter London - This manicure was inspired by Game of Thrones (which is back for Season 6, yay!). I wrote an entire blog about it, but, basically, I wanted to do something that was dark and vampy and inspired by the Night's Watch in Game of Thrones.

Honor by Zoya - I picked this polish up on a whim at Ulta (it was 50% off!) because I loved the color. As you can see, it's a gorgeous emerald green. This polish is actually from Zoya's Matte Velvet collection. However, I put a glossy top coat over it because 1) I don't currently have a matte top coat and 2) I don't really like matte polishes. Why did I buy a matte polish then? I honestly have no idea and no excuse, but I think it turned out well.

Sailor by Zoya and White Out by Sally Hansen - This was my graduation manicure! I graduated from Penn State on May 7th, so I decided to do a PSU inspired manicure. Penn State's colors are dark, navy blue and white, and our mascot is the Nittany Lion. So, for my manicure, I did a base coat of Zoya's Sailor (which is a perfect Penn State blue) and I did white paw prints for my accent nail.



Malaga Wine by OPI and Black Out by Sally Hansen - This is another Game of Thrones inspired nail look (are you sensing a theme here). I wrote a whole blog about it, so I won't go into too much detail. However, I will say that I used a simple gradient technique to achieve this look.


Candy Floss by Butter London - I did this manicure for my vacation (I went to Spain and Portugal, in case you're interested).  I choose this polish because I know that it's super, super chip resistant and I didn't want to worry about my nails while I was on vacation. This polish held up super well; it didn't chip at all for about five days, though I started to get significant flaking and cracking after that. In any case, this polish is a gorgeous, summer-y shade, and it has a wonderful formula.


Play Date by Essie - I picked this polish up on a whim at Ulta. It's a really fun, pink-toned purple; it sort of reminds me of an Easter Egg. I think it's a really cute color for Spring and Summer.
