April: A Month of Nail Polish

So, I've decided to try a new sort of post this month. Recently, I've been really into nail polish and doing my nails. Actually, I don't think I left the same nail polish on for more than two or three days in a row this month. I wanted to talk about some of the nail looks I did this month, so I took a picture of every manicure I did this month (sans one horrible, glittery, gloopy mess that I couldn't bring myself to photograph) and now I'm going to write about. So, if you're bored by incessant chatter about nail polish, click away. But, honestly, who could possibly be bored by incessant chatter about nail polish.

Please excuse my horrific cuticles; I am in desperate need of cuticle oil.

Over the Moon by Butter London - This was my first manicure of the month. Obviously, this is a nice, basic warm grey. It's nice and neutral and professional. Plus, it's a Butter London shade, so it's completely and utterly chip proof. Like, you have to try to chip Butter London nail polish, especially the 10X Patent Shine line.  I did this manicure because I was going to a professional event that day and it looked very classy.

Brownette by Ulta and Two Cents by Ulta - I think Ulta brand nail polish doesn't get nearly enough credit. It's a drug store price and the quality is excellent. It's a little streaky and it might take you an extra coat or two to get the coverage you want, but it's very chip resistant and long lasting. This manicure is my favorite combination of Ulta shades. Brownette, which is the lighter color is very neutral and shimmery and pretty, but I think it really pops with Two Cents as the accent nail. Obviously, Two Cents is the chunky, copper glitter. I think you can still buy Two Cents, but, unfortunately, I believe Brownette has been discontinued.

Passport to Happiness by Essie and Mermaid's Tale by Sally Hansen - This manicure didn't turn out quite the way I planned. Passport to Happiness, which is the base coat, is a very pretty mint green. Unfortunately, you can't really see it because Mermaid's Tale (which is the glitter top coat) has a tinted base -- which I did not expect. I suppose this is why people swatch things first. Oh well. Anyway, this turned out darker than I planned, but, overall, I still think it's fairly successful. The color combination kind of reminds me of Sully from Monsters Inc. More importantly, Passport to Happiness is a limited edition shade from Essie's Bridal Collection, so, if you want it, you should go buy it immediately. On a side note, I'm really glad that Essie released their Bridal Collection because their Spring Collection this year was disastrous. I was so relieved when I saw this collection that I bought Passport to Happiness right away. Ugh, Essie just knows how to play me.

Candy Floss by Butter London and Strobe Light by Sally Hansen - This is another manicure that I didn't really plan out, but, unlike the one above, it turned out to my liking. The base color is Candy Floss, one of Butter London's Patent Shine 10X shades, which, as you know, I absolutely love. As you can see, Candy Floss is a very pale, delicate blue, which I think is perfect for Spring. The top coat is Strobe Light, which is a fine, pinkish glitter. Together, I think they look very feminine and delicate. For some reason, the combination also reminds me of snow, which is appropriate because we're having snow in April. Can you tell that I'm not happy about that?

Passport to Happiness by Essie and Snow Blast by Sally Hansen - So, if you read the post I wrote about crackle coat nail polishes earlier this month, you know that I think that crackle coat nail polishes are really cool. This manicure is a plain, white crackle coat by Sally Hansen on top of two coats of Passport to Happiness. As I said before, Passport to Happiness is a gorgeous, mint green from the Essie Bridal Collection. It has a really nice, subtle micro glitter. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite colors for spring.

Eternal Beauty by Color Club - So, I saw this color in a YouTube video and I fell in love with it right away. This is a really pretty holographic nail polish from Color Club's Halo Hues collection. I believe the website said it was pink, but, honestly, it looks purple to me. Now, this is the first holographic nail polish I've ever bought and I can't explain how pretty it is. I tried really hard to photograph it, but the pictures don't do it justice. It looks different in every light and it looks different from every angle. I'm including two pictures so that you can see it from two different angles in two different lights. I bought this polish from Amazon Prime and got free shipping. If you don't have a holographic nail polish and you want to try it, I highly recommend this shade.

Fearlessly Alice (Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection) by OPI and White Out by Sally Hansen - I was super excited to do this manicure. The base color is a new polish for me, Fearlessly Alice from the OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection. It's a gorgeous bright blue that's opaque in one coat. If you've seen the animated, Disney Alice in Wonderland movie, this blue is the exact same shade as Alice's dress in the movie. The white dots are just a basic, white Sally Hansen polish. I used a dotting tool to create the dots; if you're interested, dotting tools are super cheap on Amazon and super easy to use. To me, the whole design is very whimsical and cute. In fact, it really reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

Four Leaf Clover by China Glaze and Petrol by Butter London - I think this manicure looks a bit like a watermelon rind, don't you? This was two coats of China Glaze's Four Leaf Clover, which is a bright, teal green and one coat of Butter London's Petrol overcoat, which has a bluish-greenish-purplish tint, depending on the light. Honestly, I had hoped that this would pop a little more on the nail, but it's a nice, vampy green (if you can apply the descriptor "vampy" to green).

The I's Have It (Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection) by OPI - Like Fearlessly Alice, this is from the Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection (which I'm quite impressed with). (As you can tell, I was a big fan of blue and green polishes this month. Actually, let's be real, I'm a big fan of blue and green every month.) Anyway, I think this is a nice, simple -- but very cute -- polish, especially for Spring. As you can see, it's a gorgeous powder blue; I don't know how well it translates in the picture, but it really pops on the nail. I don't know how unique this color is, but, if you don't have a go to powder blue, I would recommend it.

The I's Have It
Shag by Butter London - I recently bought this color on sale from the clearance section on Butter London's website. Unfortunately, I think it's been discontinued and I don't think you can get it anymore, but you might be able to find it on Amazon or something. As you can see, it's a copper, reddish, brown color with gorgeous micro glitter. Actually, it's prettier in person -- the picture doesn't quite do it justice. This would probably be a perfect color for Fall!

Galahad by A England and Dripped in Diamonds by Femme Fatale - I was really excited to do this manicure so I could try my new A England polish.  I've heard really positive things about A England, so I was dying to try it. The base color of this manicure is Galahad, which is a gorgeous blue, green teal color. A lot of people purchase St. George as their first A England polish, but, when I saw this color, I knew I had to have it. I topped it with Dripped in Diamonds, which is a super shiny, glittery topcoat with pinkish purple micro glitter and silver hex glitters. I tried really hard to get a picture that captures just how sparkling the topcoat is, but you'll have to trust me that it's super bright and lovely.

Princess Tears by A England - This is another great A England polish. It's super pretty and this picture doesn't do it justice. I did this manicure because it's simple and classy.  It's a silvery polish with pink and purple undertones and a scattered holographic. I would say that it's a fun polish, while also being classy and elegant. It's super shiny and glossy, especially in direct sunlight.

Four Leaf Clover by China Glaze, Poole by Butter London, and Passport to Happiness by Essie - I was trying to go for a marbled look with this manicure, and, I have to say, I think I succeeded. I started with a coat of Four Leaf Clover. Then, I used a foam eye shadow applicator to sponge on a thin coat of Poole. I waited for that to dry, then sponged on a coat Passport to Happiness. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but I think it has a marbly, smokey look that is very cool. If you want to try to replicate something like this, I would suggest using three colors. I could have done this with two colors, but I think three gives it a little extra depth.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed going on this nail polish odyssey with me. Comment if you would like to see other blogs like this!
