Reviews: Modern Watercolors Eyes Palette by Sephora + Pantone Universe
As you know, I'm the Queen of the Impulse Buy, and one of my most recent impulse buys—okay, about a month and a half ago (I'm behind on my palette reviews—was the Modern Watercolors Eyes Palette by Sephora + Pantone Universe. I know that this palette came out quite a while ago, but I only now bought it because it was on sale on Sephora.com. Plus, I've recently been trying out more colorful eye looks, so I thought this—very colorful palette —would be a good palette to supplement the colorful shadows I already have.
First of all, the packaging is very pretty. The lid is designed to look like a watercolor painting, which is really very beautiful. So far so good.
However, the shadows themselves are a bit of a struggle to work with. Don't get me wrong, there are a bunch of pastel shades in this palette that look gorgeous in the pan. The only issue is that these shadows have virtually no pigment. I understand that they're supposed to be "watercolors," and I know that watercolors are supposed to be a wash of color. However, this concept doesn't translate well to eyeshadows. If you want to get color pay off with these shadows, you have to use a white base and then really build up the shadows. The consistency of the shadows is nice, there's just no pigment!
To be fair, there are a few shadows that are decently pigmented. My favorite shadows in this palette are Fruit Dove (which is a great name, by the way), Orchid Haze, and Marina.
If you're willing to work with these shadows a lot, this would probably be a decent purchase (especially since it's on sale). However, I find that I hardly ever reach for this palette when I'm doing colorful looks, and I certainly don't mind working with difficult shadows. I feel like there are better options if you want a colorful palette. For example, I've really been enjoying the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette.
Overall, I could take or leave this palette.
Final rating: 3/10
