New to My Collection (February 2018)

It's been a while since I've written a New to my Collection post. Basically, I write these posts to give myself a chance to talk about makeup products that I wouldn't normally talk about because I don't like or dislike them enough to mention them in other posts or do complete reviews. As a makeup lover, I'm constantly adding new items to my collection, and there's no way I could possibly review every product individually.

In any case, I have a few products to talk about that I picked up recently, so let's jump into it:

Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation by Maybelline - I've tried the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation in the past, and I really liked it, so I thought I'd give the dewy version a try (I mean, come on, you guys know how I feel about dewy makeup). After trying both foundations, I have to say that I prefer the Matte + Poreless version. It's a little weird because the Matte + Poreless version isn't really matte; I'd describe it as demi-matte or satin. Anyway, it's really gorgeous on the skin, and the Dewy + Smooth is also gorgeous on the skin, but not quite as gorgeous as the Matte + Poreless version. If I repurchased a Fir Me foundation, I would probably grab the Matte + Poreless version (it also comes in more shades, which is nice).  However, there's nothing wrong with the Dewy + Smooth Foundation.  It looks lovely on the skin, it's long lasting, medium to full coverage, and cheap. You probably wouldn't like it if you have oily skin, but I would certainly recommend it to anyone and everyone else. I've tried a lot of drug store foundations, and I think that the Fit Me foundations are the best. In terms of cost and quality, no one else even comes close; they're even better than a lot of high end foundations. I can't recommend these foundations enough.

Micellar Water by Burt's Bees - I'm "eh" about this product. Well, to be honest, I'm "eh" about micellar water in general. Sometimes I think I like it and sometimes I think I don't. I will say that this micellar water is better than some other micellar waters that I have tried, and I do think it's pretty effective when it comes to taking off makeup. Plus, it doesn't leave residue, which is important to me. It does, however, have a terrible scent. I also think it's kind of expensive for what it is. All things considered,  I don't have strong feelings about this product. Buy it if you want to, don't buy it if you don't.

Eyestudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Glazed Toffee by Maybelline - I have this eye pencil in black (which Maybelline calls Sleek Onyx), and I really like it, so I decided to try it out in brown (Pro Tip: if you have green or hazel eyes, brown eyeliner will probably look better than black on you). However, I'm sad to say that the Glazed Toffee shade (can we just call it brown?) is not as good as Sleek Onyx. For some reason, the brown version of this pencil was not as pigmented and not as long lasting as the black version, which is a little disappointing. To be clear, this pencil is not terrible, and I will definitely continue to use it, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I probably won't repurchase this shade; however, I do recommend the eye pencil in Sleek Onyx.

All About Eyes by Clinique - I purchased this eye cream because it was the only eye cream that I could find that did not contain alcohol. For various reasons, I'm trying to avoid using skin care products that contain alcohol; the problem is that there really aren't many skin care products out there that do not contain alcohol. That being said, now that I have this eye cream, I do like it a lot. I think it does reduce puffiness and dark circles (and believe me, I have some dark circles). I think this product does what it says it does, and that's not always the case in the makeup universe. It is horribly expensive, but if you buy the mini size -- as I did -- it's a little more affordable, and you still get a decent amount of product. I recommend this product, and I will continue to repurchase it.

Heart Defensor Highlighter Palette by e.l.f. - I saw this on the new releases page on Ulta's website and decided on a whim to pick it up. Honestly, I don't know anything about Heart Defensor; I just thought the palette looked cute, and I decided to try it. Plus, it was cheap; and I'm about that life. This palette was limited edition, and I think it's no longer available, so I don't want to talk about this too much. However, I do really like this palette. The darker, cooper gold shade is too dark for me to use as a highlight. However, it does work well as an eyeshadow for me. The lighter shade in this palette is one of my favorite highlights right now. It's a gorgeous frosty pink, and it's really gorgeous on the skin. It's not a blinding highlight, but it's not a quote un-quote natural highlight either. In my opinion, it's just the perfect amount of glow for everyday life.

6 Miracle Sponges Set by Real Techniques - I received this set of real techniques sponges for Christmas; I actually also received the same set last year, and, after using the sponges for an entire year, I just threw them out. I really like Real Techniques sponges, as I've said before, and I use them all the time. I think these sorts of sets are a great value, and I highly recommend picking them up. I know I'll use all of the sponges in this set, and I'm confident that I'll repurchase them when I need to.

Voluminous X Fiber Mascara by L'Oreal - I just tried this mascara out for the first time today, but I can already tell that I'm going to love it. It's a fiber mascara, so it really does a good job of lengthening your lashes. It also adds a decent amount of volume, and, in general, just makes your lashes look fantastic. As I said, I've only tried it once, but I would definitely recommend it.

Let me know in the comments what you picked up recently!
