It Really is Marvelous! Review: Marvelous Mauves Eyeshadow Palette by Dose of Colors

The Marvelous Mauves Eyeshadow Palette by Dose of Colors has had my attention for quite a while. I feel like everyone in the beauty community has brought it up at some point (usually to say how great it is), so, naturally, I've been wanting to try it. I finally purchased it a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Sale. I've been using it for about a week or so, and I have THOUGHTS about it.

First of all, I'm going to spoil the review a bit by saying that I absolutely LOVE this palette. After I finished applying it to my eyes for the first time, I was like "where has this palette been all my life?" I truly think this is one of the best matte formulas I've ever used. You know how comfortable you feel when you put on your favorite jeans? That's how I felt when I started applying these shadows to my eyelids. I immediately felt so comfortable with the palette.

Okay, now that I've gushed about this palette, let me give you the details. This palette:

  • Costs $32 ($6.40 per shadow)
  • Contains 5 matte shadows
  • Comes with a double ended brush and a mirror
Let's take a minute to talk about the price. This palette is $32, which is not terribly expensive for an eyeshadow palette. However, it is rather expensive for an eyeshadow palette with only five shades. If you break it down, each shadow costs $6.40, which is a bit expensive. However, I think the palette is worth the money because the quality is definitely there. Also, the pans are fairly large, so you're getting a decent amount of product for your money (I'd say that each pan is roughly the size of a silver dollar).

As I just said, the quality is definitely there. This is possibly one of the best matte eyeshadow formulas that I've ever used. These shadows are so creamy and they blend like a dream. Sometimes, matte eyeshadows get patchy or muddy when you start to blend them, but these shadows blend out beautifully. I would say that they're decently pigmented; they're not intensely pigmented, but I prefer that because I can build the shadows up to my desired intensity. At the same time, they're pigmented enough that you won't be spending all day layering on shadow.

The only drawback to the formula is that the shadows are a little powdery. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Dose of Colors managed to avoid the usual drawbacks of matte shadows. These shadows are NOT dry and they're NOT patchy. I can't imagine a makeup user who wouldn't like this formula.

I think that this is also a well designed palette in terms of the shade selection. For me, this is a complete palette because I can create a whole look with this palette. Often, I feel like I have to bring in other palettes to complete the look when I use smaller palettes. As I said above, this palette contains five matte shades:
  • Fluffy (which is described as milky pale pink)
  • Rosy (which is described as light rosy pink)
  • Wishy Washy (which is described as dusty mauve)
  • Spaced Out (which is described as muted berry mauve)
  • Wine Stain (which is described as blackberry)
I typically use Fluffy as a base shade. I apply it all over the lid and brow bone to set down my primer. My go to look with this palette is applying Fluffy as a base, blending Wishy Washy into the crease, applying Rosy all over the lid, and applying a touch of Spaced Out to the outer corner. Rosy is my favorite shade because I don't have anything else like it in my collection.

The other great advantage of this palette is the packaging. The packaging on this palette is FANTASTIC. It's simple and elegant, as you can see in the photo. But, most importantly, it's not bulky and it's sturdy. It also clicks closed, so you don't have to worry about it opening randomly.

Long story short, I think this palette is fantastic. I think it's worth the money. I would definitely repurchase it, and I totally recommend it. Final rating: 10/10
